The Crane Kung Fu School Of Funk

By Kedbreak136 on February 13, 2022 4:40 am

Inspired by the art of a new video game called Sifu, and influenced by a random mix of movies from Kung Fu Hustle, Big Trouble in Little China,  to old 70s kung fu movies, I made this Funky Kung Fu track. The Crane Kung Fu School of Funk keeps the key of the funky style of martial arts and has to defend it from other schools. Of course, I spent most of the time on the mid-section with the fight. All samples were one shot samples put together to suggest a fierce battle, with broken walls, powerful slaps, broken bottles, swords, and, of course, the ancient Dragon Kiss artifact, which really is a rusty flamethrower.

I also usually rely on full drum loop samples, but for this one I programmed the main drum beats as well as the beat during the fight scene (using the Armageddon patch from Damage). That was a good learning experience.

I wish I had Suona (the reed like Chinese trumpet) samples or soundfont and knew how to make the Chinese cymbals sound more traditional, but this is a step in the right direction.

This is a lot of fun.  Great fusion with the Eastern sounds and the funk.  And the fight in the middle evokes great mental images.

Love the use of the horns, and the bass solo is a lot of fun! That poor dude who just gets maimed near the end, though... hahaha

Love the storytelling you do in these pieces! The beat was excellent too, nicely done

This song is hilarious and amazing. great work

Your kung fu is stronger than mine.

This painted a smile on me face.

Coool!!! Neat Kung fu funk big_smile

hope the kung fuus are fighting only for peace and love. they are excellently funky indeed.

Nice, I can never resist old Kung fu movie samples, mid section fight breakdown is awesome, like the droning chanting at the end

Kind of want Sifu but am probably going to blow my video game budget on King of Fighters XV!

Love your usage of Chinese instruments/elements.  This makes me wish I could find someone that has made a good music mix of older traditional Chinese music.  Or what people have done contemporary things with traditional instruments.

THE DRAGON KISS WAS AMAZING

seriously, kedbreak tracks are just movies without the visuals

Great sounds and I love this bass! The action becomes violent yikes It's a fun song!

Kung Funk! The fight samples are awesomely over the top. I think I dropped a quart of blood from one of those star punches smile

Oh hell yes. I saw that title and got super excited. Your funky bizness is prob my fave. Shamisen sounding thing, yes. Oooh, this really starts bouncing, the kicks are flying in this kung fu school. Hold on I'll be right back, I have to go do some kung fu with my cat! Time for dance fight!

Exceptionally well-done, holy shit, the fight section is perfectly framed -- simplifying the bass to straight eighths before bringing bringing the rhythmically adventurous slap back is !!!!

w00t Big Trouble in Little China is one of my fav movies!  Love the fast pace feel of this and the awesome fight sound percussion.  You always have such cinematic tracks that tell a story.  Well done!

I like the intensity of it, very visceral.
