My youngest son is already finishing his elementary school and will soon start mid school. At the ending ceremony, they played "Soranbushi", which is a traditional Japanese song, with a dance that evokes the work of fishermen, etc. It's hard to escape it at the various school events. The shamisen lines inspired this track.

If you're curious, here is a random video of a high production version of this song and the dance.

I used shamisen, koto, shakuhachi, and a few other sounds in this track, including a slap bass. This track took some time to evolve and I am not super satisfied with it. I like the shamisen and koto sounds I got but the melodies don't really go anywhere. But this will do for this week.

What a grat combination of sounds and styles, the shamisen and koto sound really great with the beats!

It was interesting to watch the video, and I can see how your track falls in a similar vein.  I agree the shamisen and koto sound fantastic in your track.  Such great textures.

Love the opening combo of sounds and then bam those high powered drums that kick in with the bass and percussion \m/  Such a cool contrast between the drums and the koto/shamisen. Well done!

Very interesting new culture to have a look at. We do not see something like this here. Congratulations to your son.
Your song is energetic and seems to be danceable.

Headbanging to the koto at the start even before the drums came in lol. Bangin tune.

Les enfants grandissent si vite!

Le scratching vers 2m15 était inattendu. J'ai bien aimé la pièce, ca passe en effet pour ce weekly beat!

Great fusion track, these can be hard to make and not sound forced, you did a great job of melding the different sounds and types of instruments.  Nice to hear some scratches, you know I always love and appreciate them.

The wind blowing in the background really sets the stage for a wintery storm at sea. And then we sail off into the waves. Really cool propulsive melody and energy in all the elements. Love the koto+shamisen on top of the breakbeats smile

Oooh, love that shamisen and koto! Inspiring me to play with those sounds. Love how this drops into big beat. I'm dancing. Bassline propels well. Very cool to see the dances in the video. Impressive. I hope people dance to this track!

Oh big nostalgia trip from hearing these instruments. Remembering a song off of DDR on ps2 called Tsugaru that was incredibly hard.

Really beautiful how you took elements from your life and your family and brought it to your beat this week!

From start to finish it truly evolves with a triumphant energy: i think this proves the melodies did actually go somewhere, somewhere extremely resonant and beautiful. smile

Very fun! This feels well arranged and definitely has movement and progression. I think there is a degree of sameness in the individual instruments which might be why you feel its not evolving, which I think is easily addressed. Definitely an idea worth pursuing it sounds great!

congrats to your son, and to you as well!

well done! This is such a cool mix of styles, you can capture any style and still make it your own.

Ahh! This is so cool! I really dig the shamisen, I love string instruments so much.

dude whatever money you spent on this koto/shamisen string pack - it was worth it!

still has that core punk rock energy, but in this totally different environment, and that's how I envision your actual life!

2:17 riff is so lyrical

An intense work of art.
