Cheaptune

By Kedbreak136 on May 31, 2026 11:32 pm

I was discussing on Friday with a friend about the good time of point & click games in the 80s - from Lucasarts to Sierra, without forgetting the Broken Sword game. I enjoyed the Sierra ones a lot but Lucasarts were for me the best - especially Loom, Indiana Jones, and Day of the Tentacle.

I think this is what prompted me to try out my hand at a pseudo chiptune. Pseudo because there are some sounds in there that are definitely not chiptune territory (like the end), but hey, i am no purist.

It's just a simple cheap little chiptune, homage to 90s point and click games and maybe SNES RPGs.

love those Sierra games!  Police Quest!!!

this goes nicely with this trailer on mute:

this sounds really good and of-the-era.  i can practically hear the CPU fan and the whirr of the floppy disk

how'd you make this?

Maybe not made with the "accurate" sound engine-chip-polyphony-etc... but love the melodies and bass lines there.

Vraiment fun, les lignes mélodiques sont vraiment cool.

Bien joué.

This is giving me major nostalgia.  Sierra games were my jam back in the day.  Space Quest, King's Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, and of course as Orange Drink mentioned Police Quest.  It definitely evokes the feeling of those classic games.

Ooof love the nostalgia feels and when those deep chords kick in \m/ so crunchy love it! The outro chords so good too!

not kidding, I was thinking about Sierra this morning and leisure suit Larry. very cool and thanks for the nostalgia hit. the arp-like lines hit hard.

really fun track, Kedbreak!

This is a really simple one. I just used a few FLEX "chiptune" libraries in FL Studio and Magical 8bit plugin. And here you go. smile

Sierra games were awesome! But unforgiving! I must have died thousand of times playing Space Quest or Hero's Quest games.

The universe is trying to tell us something! We need to bring Sierra back to life!

Thank you! heart

Great effort at some chiptune.  I'm not a chiptune peep at all but this works!

I quite enjoy the modern 'walking simulator' games as they're kind of point and click too.  I'm a regular Xbox user.  smile
