RibbonTone2 - 'butterfly picking'

By K-o-m-o-d-O on June 17, 2018 3:57 pm

A late night improv on a really niche technique I've been practicing with for ages now - this sort of lopsided cascading RH technique. I think it sounds really great with a couple of open strings droning.

Just whatever happened at the time - recorded into my trusty blumlein ribbon mic + a DI with reverb applied.
The simplicity of this recording setup has helped me to learn a bit more about gain-staging / noise floor etc. because the ribbon mic needs to get cranked v hard to get a good level, and there's nowhere to hide mix-wise.

Also - the buzz/fizzing sound which you might notice is coming from my guitar! I didn't notice it until only recently, gonna get that fixed up soon smile
Thanks for listening!

I am impressed by your guitar skills and the nice recording.

That's some damn fine guitaring. Simple setups can be a great setup, if you have the right timbres going it hardly matters what you record it on.
