weatherman (forestlike)

By jwh on November 10, 2024 11:09 pm

i'm in a duo called forestlike with a lifelong buddy named Jared. this is a (mostly) live version of our song 'weatherman.'
we recorded the vocals and acoustic guitars live back in February (the video footage is from the live take). oh yeah, that hot beat is coming from Jared's old Wurlitzer Swinging Rhythm drum machine.  smile
i added bass and some additional percussion and finished the mix this week.

if yr interested, you can find our album — including the original version of 'weatherman' —  here on bandcamp.

the Wurlitzer Swinging Rhythm:

heart

Made me smile, couldn't stop. Magical. And that Wurlitzer is a treasure!

(That last minute is amazing btw. What a sound!)

Beautiful song and awesome sound!  Love that swingin rhythm! **taps foot**  The vocal harmonies are so comforting and the guitar melody so catchy.  The bass gives it a nice full sound.  Especially enjoyed the "i know i've been fooled by the weatherman" line.

That was lovely, you both sound great together.  That Wurlitzer sure is something

Cool tune!

A lovely warm tune for these grey November days. Thank you.

Warm and cozy. Just the right thing! heart

Beautiful "folk" song.

Well done.

Very heartfelt and authentic. Love you two.

I needed some musical therapy for sure this week.  You guys sound great together.  Both your guitars and vocals blend beautifully.

P.S. I also checked out your and Emily's rendition of Engine.  Really lovely version and thanks for sharing it.

Cool old school drum machine, glad you included the photo.  The first two lines really resonated with me, one of my families favourite places to holiday “Jasper” literally burned down this summer.  My kids are sad as they say will take 100 years for the trees to grow back, so they will never see the Jasper we remember again.

Really lovely performance! I usually just listen to the audio but seeing the two of you playing in that room with the old piano was a treat. And the drum box holding it all together, haha! Well done.

What a great duo! The atmosphere of the live show and the sound of the drum machine are both great.

this is my favorite thats come from you so far!

stellar vibes in this one. love those wurli drums and that "modern vintage" feel. awesome lyrics too. a killer duo!

Very nice, it just rolls along with that rather smooth Wurlitzer beat. I find this calming.
Fooled by the weatherman, oh that weatherman!

Beautiful

Very tasty

A very cozy vibe in that room.

Love the vintage vibe of the Wurlitzer drum box, but if I'm being entirely honest it gets somewhat repetitive at some point big_smile Good that you layered more stuff on top! But I guess even the original repetition is part of the "in your room" tiny concert vibe, which I enjoyed a lot.

so good! Love the room reverb sound of the vocals. Feels like I'm sitting in the corner watching you guys perform, which one day I may have to make happy. I absolutely love everything you create, thank you for creating it! Great harmonies. Killer song.

OK, that Swinging Rhythm sounds ridiculously good.

Your vocals blend in the best kind of way. Awesome duo. And I LOVE the tenor guitar. Great production over all, but it feels like super glue for the whole song. Fantastic work.

I love that the beat is coming from the Swinging Rhythm. You guys are great together. Awesome stuff.

it's funny you mention it. we had actually recorded another song called 'cosmic danger' on the same day we recorded this one and submitted that 2nd song for the Tiny Desk thing earlier this year. if you feel like checking the other one out, you can find it here. no Wurli on that one wink
cheers

thank you! i used a reverb impulse taken from the forest of Wheldrake Woods in the UK and i'm happy with how it worked on this. hopefully we will get to play for you in the flesh some day. i've been singing with Jared for most of my life! thank you for those nice words, SQF heart

thank you, lcb! and yeah, i agree - nothing quite like it. Jared's one of my oldest friends, and music has always been a connector for us. take care smile

Wooooo forestlike! Really cool instrumentation, love a tenor guitar and the drum machine looks like it comes from a time before drum machines even existed. Love your playing/singing together.
