wave of fibrillation (feat. Tone Matrix)

By jwh on October 26, 2024 7:36 pm

another collab with the unstoppable Tone Matrix. heart

this song is built on Tone's Week 41 track.
that's him on piano, synth, and percussion - recorded while he was in full afib. a true Wizard.

i (with permission) added vocals, guitar, and bass guitar and did the final mix.

› lyrics

i was a little nervous coming back to something more complex and layered after the last few weeks of more minimal songs (although those were challenging in their own way), but i feel like i was able to incorporate a lot of things that i learned this year & i'm really happy with how this one turned out. the Tone Matrix stems sounded great already, so it was a fun bit of Tetris to pull the mix together.

hope y'all enjoy it, and thank you for listening!

So honored and blown away by the song you created from what I thought was just a boring ambient track for sleeps smile  Thanks so much for giving new life and meaning to this song.  I am grateful for all the music we've had a chance to work on this WB_year. Hai Fivuh! heart

Love both of you guys work, so no wonders I really like this track...

Really like the vocal production there, fx and harmonies are spot on. Mix is super wide.

I'd take a crazy amount of saturation on your guitar solo, but this is me lol.

Bravo!

THIS IS SO BADASS!!! This feels like synthwave mixed with indie rock and the result is pure gold!!! Awesome collab, peeps!!! Really proud of y'all!

Wicked collaboration! Love the vocals and mix

Your GIFs are the best!

There's a somewhat forgotten - or at least not  often-practiced - tradition among writers and composers in which they "reply" or "respond" to each other in their works - not simply elaboration, not repetition, and not purely competitive spirit either, but a conversation, embracing an element of the source material, responding to its spirit, its meaning, interpreting that essence, adding to it, imagining something next, something that evolves, something that celebrates and cherishes and yet shows empathy and understanding and a desire to reach out and connect - I really feel this is one of the finest examples of that tradition, the way you and others work together here in weekly. It's beautiful.

You found the right chords and mood for the original tones. Completely love what you have done. Bravo!!!

Loved the original, this elevates it to new heights. It's amazing. Great ear for a collab opportunity! You shouldn't be worried about more complex arrangements, you're doing great.

Sum it up in a single word, "Wonderful"

Very cool to see how you transform and complement the original track and how collaborative works have provided you with so much inspiration this year.  This has a great intensity to it.

This is awesome smile a great song becomes another great song. Love how much the original track is preserved/honored in your arrangement, like the vocals leaving plenty of space for things to just groove and the tasteful melodic guitar solo. Lyrics are sooo strong here, particularly love the last "tell me" line of each section.

loved this one, a departure from your typical sonic palette that worked out really well. a lot of my favorite songs are like that. actually this one reminds me a tiny bit of leave this island, by maximo park, but more somber. hard to believe this song wasn't made from scratch with the guitars and vocals - it sounds really cohesive. Really liked your lyrics. the end/outro with the piano - perfect ending.

Truly awesome collaboration. Love the lyrics and final outcome. Spectacular development and stellar job building on another awesome upload, JWH. This is really what makes the WB community shine heart

This is fantastic, a really wonderful song.  Your vocal delivery really resonated with me, just beautiful.  Favorited, this is a great collab/remix/reinterpretation.

Grand rich waves washing across us. Makes me close my eyes and sway. Love it! I enjoyed this Tone Matrix track, and what you added adds new dimension and depth, vocals and lyrics and guitar working so well. Love the breakdown into outro around 5 mins, time to contemplate it all ...

If I said I didn't like this it'd be a fib. (sorry) The vocals are so effing good over top of the TM track. Great harmonies. Amazing collab. While I loved the minimalist stuff it's cool to hear you going more complex!

Wow, this is really cool. Somber and powerful. I think you do a good job with layering, feels very dynamic but also that there's space for all the different sounds and they work together.

Sweet, get an extra dose of Tone Matrix this week!  The original already sounded like Trent Reznor was lurking in the shadows ready to belt out at anytime.  I like how this has a more laid back feel with those signature JWH guitars and vocals.  Beautiful rework you did here, some really stellar tracks this week.

That is so well written, couldn't agree more.

Absolutely exquisite. You've taken this already-beautiful piece to new, transcendent places.

It's a fantastic collaboration that goes perfectly together!

This has a ton of energy and emotions for a more ambient/minimal track. Masterfully done!

nice lyrics on this

Man I loved Tone Matrix's submission. This is such a great addition. Awesome stuff.

I love every second of this. Amazing stuff

Oh man! I love this mix of guitars, piano, vocals and the synthy bits on top! Such a cool arrangement! Really great work, both of you!

and you know what? Trent was LITERALLY lurking in the shadows! really odd behavior. i was like, "HOW DID YOU GET IN THE COZY BASEMENT, WEIRDO??"
but yeah, more Tone Matrix is always a good thing. sometimes when i need to lower my blood pressure i just hit play on his WB page and listen through all his tracks.  smile

this comment is beautiful and just sums up my love for this website.  the kindness and understanding is awesome.  thank you heart

i am so proud to be a part of this track smile

That synth arp pattern is so uplifting and catchy, and every layer introduced thereafter creates a beautiful backdrop that's somehow both light and lush. This is such a cool tune! big_smile

the synth arp takes this to a totally intense emotional level!
