Subtle and beautiful. The doubling on your vocals sounds great, and I am enamored of the chord progressions, voicings and rhythms you used. This is the kind of song that in a traditional format could feel sort of samey and repetitive, but it always feels like a new path with sights that sometimes feel familiar. That dissonant chord is fantastic...sort of like a landmark...and I love how it loops back to the beginning. Lovely songwriting and performance. So good heart

Lovely. I love how this makes my head spin and makes me feel like I am twirling around, and those ever-so-slightly dissonant chords make it feel like its flying out of control, just for a moment. A little unhinged in the most wonderful ways. heart.

Love the waltzy feel, those vocal harmonies and lil trails on the guitar. heart excellent!

Lovely folky country vibe going on with quite an interesting composition.  It has the usual 5 1 lines etc but there's some great melodic elements and even that dissonant chord section.  Vocals so nice as usual.  Very natural feel.  Oh, and nice work on the lyrics!

Your voice and guitar always make my eyes tear up a bit. I so dig your voice; it carries a lot of comfort and care.
What a lovely piece, so gentle.

This is one of those songs that feel like it's been around forever. You hear it, and it brings you back somewhere. Sometime. Pure magic.

Love your voice! Have a good week J smile

I really like that you take the time to do cover art week after week.

Nice sensible performance. I love the classical guitar vocal combo with just a bit of overdubs.

Vocal (and guitar) performance is great.

Bravo!

no dancing, not worth it

Love the warm sound.  It really feels like I'm sitting in the same room listening to you play this song.  Nice little details, too, like the subtle vocal harmonies and the moments of dissonance.

what a banger. favorite part is the falling vocals of the chorus (ex ~1:17). the dissonant short section after it made me smile too. you're crazy talented - have I said that already?

How pleasant

This is really lovely stuff.

I love how you can really hear the fingers on the strings.

Some great chord changes into the instrumental section and out into the beautiful descending melody.

I love the discordant chord you hit as well. Pulling people out and challenging the ears super cool.

Feels like the credit song to a film you'd cry about love the vibes smile

Swaying to this story. You paint a good picture. Great lyrics, I'm thinking about those questions in the last stanza, and contemplating about dreams and dances that are done. thank you

Really enjoying the subtle melancholy combined with the comforting strumming.

Pretty! 😊 I always dig the intimate vibes and storytelling in your tracks.

makes me want to waltz.

Wonderful lyrics and vocals, such a soothing calm voice, you could probably convince anyone to do what ever you want, you should be a hostage negotiator or they should have you mediating these meetings between Trump and Iran, who could say no to you?

What a lovely song!

Nice stocks and socks. GREAT lyrics! and the lil gtr interludes are 👌

I love this. Favorited. I'm gonna revisit and dissect this like some kind of alien vivisection.

Simple folk song hit gold today, love this

I always like your chord progressions. You find unexpected directions that ends up sounding right and hammer home you lyrics well. The lyric captures American decay well and the slight dissonance is a nice touch to emphasize things going sour in the lyrics. K economy.... wish I haven't been thinking about it as much as I have been.

thanks so much, rdomain. appreciate you mentioning the lyrics and other details! what are 5 1 lines? i'm not familiar with that term.

thank you, JP! and thx for mentioning the cover art. i knew i wasn't up for doing weekly videos this week, but i still wanted some kind of visual component. once i set up a cassette j-card style template it made it a little easier to update each week  smile

i appreciate that, it's something i've been working on a lot in my recordings - a sense of space where it feels like you're in the room. thanks for visiting the basement!

thank you, monstret! very kind of you. i am very happy with that falling part, it feels good to sing.
i originally just had the other 2 parts, and i had sent a voice memo recording to my bandmate in forestlike. he suggested maybe using the B section as a kind of pre-chorus and seeing if it could continue to lift and that part just kinda fell into place   big_smile

thanks so much, Nick. really appreciate you catching all those details!
a while back i got a good deal on a used AKG P170 and that mic does a really good job on fairly close acoustic guitar without getting too squeaky.

it's a very unsettling energy these days. hard to sit in it. hard not to worry about where we are headed.
trying to find beauty where i can and keep pushing the needle towards love.
thank you for listening so deeply, ENC_

i really appreciate all of you. hope week 20 is good to you heart

Ugh that vocal and guitar run on "no one ever really spun"... The kind of thing that dreams are made of.
This is beautiful beautiful beautiful. heart
A masterclass in songwriting yet again.

Hey hey.  The term 5 1 lines I used is referring to the bass part of your guitar picking.  You're playing the 1 and the 5 of the chord to create the bass part.  This all refers back to the major scale.  I'm not sure if this is obvious or not as I don't know your background in music theory.

thanks for clarifying! i was thinking it was something like that after i asked. i was in band & choir in school, so i know a little bit of theory. just enough to make me dangerous  smile
and a bit of synchronicity - i was just listening to a conversation on the Dead Wax podcast and they referred to a 5 to 1 chord change. different than what you mentioned, but it did make me think of your comment.

Ah nice, and yes; a different thing for sure.  5 to 1 chord change = perfect cadence.  I'm more a fan of the plagal cadence as it's a bit more subtle.  Ok, enough music nerd talk, I've got to do my WB!  Haha.
