i finished listening to Sinéad's audiobook, "Rememberings," last sunday...
heart-breaking/ inspiring/ funny/ heart-breaking. she reads it herself, which adds layers. we didn't deserve her, and she deserved better than this world gave her </3
i wrote this as a tribute & letter of love. grateful to the wonderful crew who helped bring it to light this week, and grateful to y'all for listening.

“They broke my heart and they killed me, but I didn't die. They tried to bury me, they didn't realize I was a seed.” ― Sinead O'Connor

She is one of my all time favorite rebellion and a tragic heroine. Thanks for the tribute.

"we burn the joists to warm the dungeon"... man... mood... BF MOOD.  If that isn't one of the best crystallizations of what the last few years have felt like... I really don't know what is.  I love the instrumentation in this song.  Like the glockenspiels/vibraphone (maybe) fits so nicely in the mix, and adds just the right amount of interest.  And, the pads through out (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)... very well done.

You've found a way to bottle heartbreak. Fortunately, you'll use this power only for good, as you have here. Beautiful work!

I under-appreciated her during her heyday and I remember watching her infamous SNL appearance when it aired and sort of buying into the undeserved backlash and ridicule that happened afterwards. I can only say I was young and ignorant and it was easy to kind of pile on, only to discover years later that she was absolutely and completely correct.  Not to mention astonishingly brave.  She truly did deserve better.

Anyway the song is beautiful and a wonderful tribute.  Sounds like you assembled a strong collaborative team for this one.

so much captured in the lyrics and inspiration another classic added to this years catalog!

Love the instrumentation on this one so much smile This is such a beautiful tribute.

oh thank you. it feels good to know you have listened so deeply.
and yeah, i really love the parts that Bil added to this! i did the acoustic and electric guitars and bass, but all the other instrumental parts were Bil's handiwork.  smile

i appreciate that honesty. i know i didn't fully appreciate her during her earlier years. it wasn't till more recently that i really even grasped the weight of that performance. "Rememberings" shed some more light on it for me. i didn't realize that picture of the Pope had belonged to her (very abusive) Mother. she held onto it for quite some time for just the right moment. heavy.
thank you for your kind words. may we keep moving the needle towards love.

thanks so much, Friend heart

I think I'm just a fanboi at this point, you can do no wrong. Such a great soundscape that really fills the entire track out. Horns, strings, xylophone, sounds like timpani maybe? Is this all recorded live or with samples? Fantastic vocals, lyrics and melodies as always. Love the changing cadence of the arragement.

Ahhhhh the echoing angelic vocals that start just after the one minute mark had me looking behind me in the yard at night, letting the dogs out, cuz I thought someone had materialized there and was singing along.

Beautiful and haunting. Hard not to cry when the timpani brings in that extra tension  at the end. Loved it heart

Moving song that's inspiring many feels this afternoon, thank you. Agree with others above about the great instrumentation, nice to hear those sounds. I like the quote above, she is a seed, yes! I'm kind of like others above, under appreciated her during the hey day, but the appreciation has grown and grown. Recently listened to some of her reggae and loved it. She's an inspiration, and this is a great tribute.

I too can honestly say I didn't realize her depth when I was a kid.  Because at that age all you see is what the media forces down your throat over and over.  I came to appreciate her much more when I worked on a cover of a cover of "nothing compares 2 u".  This a beautiful touching tribute and an all star ensemble you have contributing  as well.  The mix is perfect imho.  Had me swaying back and forth.  Those percussive timpanis add so much ooomph to the power of this too.  It doesn't stick out at all and is the cherry on top of everything.  Got me in the feels on this one.  Every week dang it! tongue

The song that accompanied it gently is the best healing.

oh you are too kind, thank you. i tracked the guitars and bass here in the basement. all the other instrumentation was my good friend, Bil. and while i know he would love to have access to a timpani etc, i believe he is using VSTs here. i like to imagine him conducting an orchestra of ghosts.

yes, these last couple of years i've been thinking a lot about how manipulative & parasitic media can be. even in the less mainstream realm. seems like more and more artists who have been through trauma are pushed to use that or even just forced to dissect it publicly to garner more clicks/ engagement etc. for sensitive souls it can be so damaging. i've also been thinking about my role in all of that, and trying to be mindful - not only of how i allow my thoughts and opinions to be swayed, but also just how i partake in culture. we all have to do better.
thank you as always for listening so deeply, and for your thoughtful words. i'm glad you were feeling it smile

You have a way of making gentle songs that have a beautiful mix of acceptance and melancholia.

Beautiful! Great instrumentation, a lot of depth in the lyrics. Thank you!

Sorry for the late comment, I was busy with finishing stuff before leaving for Pittsburgh, where I am now!

There's plenty little things in your song that draw my attention and remind me of stuff. Colin Oberst's "Poison Oak" line "Now I'm drunk as hell on a piano bench and when I press the keys it all gets reversed: the sound of loneliness makes me happier". "Gabriel" by Lamb. Syd Barrett's early Pink Floyd magical realism.

This is wonderful, and yeah, a fair tribute to Sinead, who definitely got the short end of the stick after her entirely justified protest.
