a checkpoint

my son (who also sent me the sleepy cat video footage) sent me this video last week and it hit me right in the feels. even the comments were beautiful, which is rare.

i saw that it was licensed for free use so i thought i would record a response of sorts.
i added vox, acoustic guitar, and bass.
will likely record an extended version at some point.
ok heart

heart

last light of the sun filtered through leaves, splashed across the deck, night wind off the lake, teethed with the chill of autumn; warm voices inside, warm quilts on the bed, quiet and friends.

Beautiful work Josh heart

Peaceful. Light.

Very pleasant listen. Thanks!

i was today years old when i learned you had a son.  amazing!

that is a COZY lil buddy
this actually feels like an M83 interlude track in the best way

Cats mixed with ethereal and uplifting music.  You really can't go wrong with that.

This feels like the audio definition of "lush". Super pretty, thank you for sharing!!! Definitely looking forward to the extended version!!!

this vibe just fits

Definitely too short. You know I have a long breath. Your voice on here is straight Spiritualized. One of my all time favorite bands.
Your son has excellent ears. Thanks for your link and beautiful track.

Well cat ambient is now a thing.  Lovely, a needed escape.

Beautiful.

Makes me want to drift away, float away, and brings a sense of calm and peace. Love that bass creeping in, brings some warmth.

Really great work!

Wonderful.

Ooh those are some vibey thin vocals

Gorgeous. Perfect checkpoint music. Makes the trek here worth all the while. heart

Original source material is beautiful, your vocals just stepped it up to the next rung on the ladder, awesome stuff, do wish it was longer, could easily keep listening for another 10 minutes.

Absotively fabtabulous. Purest oxygen in a suffocating world.
Peace to you all!

very ethereal, lovely birds reminding us to sing.

Beyooteeful, I really like what you added. Made an already lovely ambient piece even more wonderful. Yeah I could listen for a long time. I needed this today, thanks. Cool that your son sent you the song and the cat video. I liked watching the cat napping, made me sleepy. My cats sleep in cute ways and places too. The original song is interesting, I watched his process video too. Of course people thought he made it with AI. I'm curious as how it went so viral, seemed to go mega viral, over million views, wow. But so amazing how all the comments are nice as you noted. A neat internet moment.

This is so huge. So expansive and evolving. Great stuff!

It brings peace to my mind.

i will properly reply once i catch my breath, but i wanted to give a heartfelt THANK YOU and invite all of you (and anyone else who might see this) to a brief listening party // collective rest experiment on the jwh bandcamp tomorrow morning.
specifically:

Sunday, November 24 @ 11am EST

you can RSVP and/or read more info here if you are interested.

the short version: i did end up recording an extended version of 'a checkpoint' for my Week 47 track. i decided to release both versions (with a couple bonus tracks) as a free EP on bandcamp. i really like the idea of a small group of people listening to music and resting collectively so this "listening party" is a chance to do just that. the music will start right at 11am EST and will last around 25 mins. there is a chat feature, but no video - so feel free to come in your pajamas or whatever.  smile

no pressure to attend, just wanted you all to know you are invited.
thanks again for listening heart

no words... just pure serene calmness (ok that was a few words).  But dang i love how you always combine your vocals with your basslines..  Like just perfect space filled between them and the airiness of the track oof.  I hope to be around for the pahtay!  and yay kitties!

So happy you're making an extended version of this. I could sink into this for a *while*. I went and checked out the original, and I absolutely LOVE what you added. A richness and organic feel....and those vocal harmonies along with the drone. Beautiful.

This GIF sums it up perfectly how I just felt listening to this. Amazing stuff heart

Cool additions to the track. I like the approach. Makes me want to think less rigidly about collaborations.

I used to make a lot of ambient music in the mid 2000's. Glad to see younger people are into it now. In college I'd to get some rude comments about that.

Very dreamy! The ethereal vocals are a great addition. Really well done!

a wonderfully meditative and dreamy vibe

Uuuuuggggghhhh right in the feels. Very dreamy, I could drift away with this. heart

This sounds like such a cooool thing. I would've actually loved to attend but didn't see it in time and wouldn't have been able to make it anyhow. I hope it was good!

this is proper healing music....absolutely lovely and serene. Could listen to this for hours.

This is awesome, really appreciate your additions to this track. Vocals are really just so good. Sorry to have missed the listening party, such a cool idea!

Super ethereal.  The sound of floating peacefully through space.  I'm a big reverb fan so it gets my tick!
