The Pale and Twisted Willow

By Jentu on December 31, 2025 7:39 pm

Composed in Logic Pro X

Most instruments are from Kontakt 7
Lead synth is from DecentSamples Memos

Drums is a Logic Session Player that I converted to an orchestral drum set (hopefully I'll be writing my own drums this year)

Akai MPK mini midi controller
Yamaha P-125 digital piano

I like some of the ideas in this piece. If you don't mind me saying, I feel it could use some more range. The main melody goes up and down a bit. And that's good! But I think that the range could be larger. I think this is especially true for the accompaniment. That really stays in its lane. To my ears it's kind of a murky lane. I think the tune would really come to live if it stepped out of that from time to time. Anyway, those are just my thoughts of course. Do with them what you will. Anyway, nice tune.

Very nice composition. A touch of the Giallo soundtrack, perhaps.

Thanks, I really enjoyed that. Very interesting chord progression and I love the way you mixed up the instruments throughout the song.

beautiful composition!

Very interesting track, really enjoyed this, starts with the mysterious intro and then develops from there, would be a great backing track to the intro credits of an adventure/mystery movie.

I like the orchestral arrangement! I agree with electronic_tiger about it could use more dynamics - i.e. more space in some parts, more intense in others, just to give it more contrast.

nice chord changes on the bridge approx 1:50

drums pretty cheesy, but kinda works in its own way. maybe mix could be made to glue more - I'm not sure how. maybe some kinda multiband compressor to bring them more in the foreground, or some kinda reverb that could connect the drums and the other instr and make them all part of the same space? of course not too much so it makes it muddy....

pretty cool compo anyway! tbh could have worked without the drums too, but that would just be a different track, nothing wrong with this choice! looking forward to hear more in the next weeks!

Whoa, this is so cool

This somehow feels like it would fit Castlevania really well.

I really dig the flow of the compostion. I love how cheesy it is! This could easily soundtrack a Kingdom Hearts world or a Final Fantasy mini game big_smile
