Line of Sight

Welcome back everyone!!

This year I have a specific goal involving learning to produce a complicated genre (early 90s trance) with a complicated synth (Synclavier Regen) using a complicated sequencer (Sequentix Cirklon). It’s going to require a lot of figuring out on my part. And time figuring out means time not spent composing. And time not spent composing means missing a week here and there. I’ve resolved to be cool with this. Really. Very chill and not going to feel bad about that at all…

Anyway, this week’s attempt is a more simple, all-ITB effort just to get a sense for trance-ish arrangement. Please enjoy and happy new year!

Hell yeah! Felt like I was at a bush doof under the full moon.

Happy New Year and good luck on achieving your goal this year.  Sounds like you're off to a good start already.  I had a little dance party while listening in my headphones at my desk.

Is this all the Synclav? It sounds fantastic! yikes

hats of to you for committing to learning the ropes of a tough workflow and already producing such a great result! absolutely nailed the 90s trance sound, could've told me this was underworld or system f and i'd have totally believed you.

Clean sounds!

you've got to feel good about this, nicely done!

This is already quite 90s trancey to my untrained ears―it sounds like you're already pretty close to your goal. tongue

This problem haunted me all last WB; I've come to a similar conclusion as you for this year (including the resolution-ish).

i'm drifting

unapologetically nailed the early trance sound for sure!!  **thumbs through dust-covered stack of burned trance cds**

That buildup is epic. I love that slightly acid bass. The beat is infectious. The vocal samples contribute to building a dark setting. Those vocal pads add to the epic element. The break at 2:54 is delicious - that piano sounds really great, floating in space, backed by the pads. I love how you keep the piano even though the other elements come back - the track has evolved into something different. What a great journey through space. What a great track to start 2024!

absolute banger

Well done!

I've sampled this track under the CC Attribution Noncommercial (BY-NC) license for my upcoming track “α - β - γ - δ - ε - ζ - ε - δ - γ - β - α”.

If I am to re-sample “α - β - γ - δ - ε - ζ - ε - δ - γ - β - α” again for future work, I will just put the attribution in the new track, as not to spam the comment field of this track with more than one comment, that is; unless you request me to also put it here again.

Full of bliss

Sampled again for the 11th (and, most likely, final) time for next week's track “phase 1”, concluding Q1.

This week's “alpha ⋰ omega ⋱ alpha” is a more compact iteration.

Thanks for your inspiring sound!
