Starlight

Hi all, excited to join WB 2024. New to the process but already intrigued by the experience of the 1-week deadline. This is a pretty straightforward, mellow song with basic rock instrumentation: vocals, guitars, bass, drums. Some notes:

-I tried out the Logic Pro drummer for the first time in years. I usually use a MIDI keyboard for drums so this was fun to mess with.
-I should have dialed in tempo and overall structure before recording as many layers as I did, in retrospect it's a bit slow for my taste and some transitions feel clunky.
-Without the deadline, this song would surely be sitting in my unfinished folder with just a single chorus and no plan for what to do with it!

Looking forward to hearing everyone's music.

What will it take
To reach
To each, of

your tempted fates
To live
That dream

To carry us all
On your sleeve
To sleep

And dream of that day
You seize

It’s true
Starlight’s pouring over you
I may turn to stone
Before it’s through

This time
Try again, maybe rewind
What will it take
To see it through

You ask why you can’t
You hear of our plan

We ask you to align
Say we’ve stood through tests of time

But we dream of that day
You seize

It’s true
Starlight’s pouring over you
We should be so bright
To send you through

If not
Tie a bow and pass it off
At the very least
Try something new

Such a great voice! (feel free to write your lyrics in your descriptions if you'd like)
Loved the chill vibe, like the feeling of floating on a stream til you feel weightless.

Very pleasant tune and the parts tie nicely together. Well done.

Dang, this is great. You really nailed the production and obv know what you're doing as far as songwriting

This is just beautiful and well crafted. Congrats.

Welcome. Don't worry too much about the little details, yes it's a little slow, but with it comes a relaxing vibe in those evening moments.

Absolutely lovely! Tempo is perfect, very dreamy.

I really like this piece. I’m having Internet problems right now, so I hope to get to hear the whole thing soon and thanks for your comments about mine. I do hope to get to use some kind of video as soon as I learn how to do that sort of thing I would like to use animation.

Wow, I was not expecting to be blown away by what you make out to be no big deal. This is lovely smile

Thanks all for lovely comments smile Hugely motivating for week 2, and holy moly I'm in good company on this website.

To rm, I should clarify that I absolutely stressed over this and spent oodles of time haha, I just meant that the song structure and chord progressions are not particularly unique. Much appreciated.

Holy cow, this is beautiful! Gorgeous chord progression, great melody, awesome vocal harmonies, fantastic mix, cool poetry, and wonderful overall laid-back vibe. Way to kick off week one in style! big_smile

This is quite nice, welcome! I can't sing and really don't do well at attempts at poetry/lyrics, I am always in awe of people who can both write lyrics/music and sing...

Beautiful track! Reminds me of some early Coldplay. Your voice is so soothing!

Top notch production, makes me think of a Grizzly Bear track. I am really looking forward to hearing your future tracks !

Its truuueeeeee this song is amazing!

Excellent first track for this year! So mellow, reminds me of a lot of psychedelic style music I've been listening to for the past few years. Super dig this.

Thank you! I believe in you if they're things you want to work on, but you've got a good thing going without them.

Cool, and thank you! I've yet to really dig into psychedelic music beyond early Tame Impala/MGMT and the Beatles, but that's awesome that it evokes some of those vibes.

Thanks! Chords are based on a pretty natural walk-up that pretty much writes itself on guitar - probably some inspiration from "Here, There, and Everywhere" by the Beatles of "All Things Must Pass" by George Harrison
