Dust on your Jacket

This is the first time I’ve gone back to mess with a previous song. The original was a short 8bit tune, and I liked it well enough. But I kept hearing it as a string trio and there was just no good way for me to do that.

Well, this (black) friday I succumbed and bought the Solo Strings bundle from Audio Modeling. Hearing how good they sounded, I had to give redoing this old tune a shot, with a new “B” section written for the occasion.

I'm still no good playing things (even keyboards) with my hands. And there’s still so much I don’t understand about recording expressive MIDI, so I couldn’t fix all my mistakes in the DAW like I usually do. But man, what a time to be alive — we can simulate orchestras at our command. And without terabytes of samples!

It sounded more like piano to us with a flute as third voice, which I know is hard to reconcile with the tremolo, but it just had the air to it. Truly chiptune is magic like that.
