Train of Thought

Welcome back! How have you been? It's been a while since we last spoke! I know things haven't all been super peachy, but I hope you've been holding up well in general.

I've been super lucky this week - I've been on a cruise ship along the Douro River in Portugal and Spain and it has been absolutely lovely. I had never done anything like this, and I feel like I've been super spoiled because this entire trip has been just perfect. The only bad part is that it's ending soon - I travel back home on Sunday morning.

This trip has also been super successful musically speaking. During my flight to Portugal I was able to finish my submission to last week's M8 Community Jam. I even got asked by someone on the plane what the M8 was, which was a great interaction. Also, after arriving here I started working on this WB submission you're listening to right now and was able to dedicate considerably more time to it than I have to my other WB suvmissions.

I started this one off by layering some organ sounds, which felt sort of meditative/religious. So I just kept building off of that, and it kept getting more and more... Intense. I also knew I wanted to do some vocal chopping, so I fell back on the reliable ScotRail samples which I've used in a previous WB submission.

I'm super proud of how this came out. I think the time signature is also a little weird, so that was super fun to make work. I haven't made that many songs with drops, but I absolutely loved how the drop in this one came together as well.

As usual, all was done on the M8. Most of the sounds are samples. I think the only one that isn't is the high pitched tingly bell sound that arpeggiates throughout, which uses one of the M8's new internal wavetable synths.

It's also worth mentioning that, since I've been on vacation mode, I've spent very little time on the WB site, so I've listened to and commented on almost no songs this week. My apologies. I'll likely get back on track on this front soon!

Looking forward to listening to everyone's stuff!!!

Peace, y'all!!!

This is great! "Mind the gap" was one of my favorite things when I visited the UK.

Love the contrast between your sounds - the sort of sinuous, weaving sounds, and that arpeggiated bell part. The repeated "mind the gap" in the middle made the tension build huge. Favorite part is the percussion - the kick is huge, and that tabla-esque drum part is perfect.

Welcome back! I love the percussion on this one and those organ sounds are super interesting ... slightly oriental feel to them to my ears. The Scot Rail sample sound great too. Nice job!

I was intrigued by the organ layers, then the bell caught my attention and I really started listening. By the time I realised it sounded like your percussion, the Scot Rail sample kicked in big_smile
I love it - dark and thick, and when the chopped vocals started I was like "YESSSSS" - SO good

The percussion is sweet and the vocal manipulations (both the slowing down and the chopping) add a cool trippy element.  Glad you had a nice vacation!

Slick percussive groove that has a tribal feel to it and then goes into psychedelic territory with the suhweet vocal chops.  Enjoy the rest of your trip!

My cat's ears perked up to this song. Makes you think.

Very well done.

Really nice track one of my faves of yours so far - love the slightly sinister atmosphere and the sound design on the metallinc synth sounds and bassy pads.

Feels very ceremonial! I love the thumpiness of the drums. That lead synth that comes in around 0:40 is really awesome. This is one of your best!!

Ohhhh love this a lot. It's got its own groove but it's also got some of the vibe of my fave NIN treasures - thinking Year Zero and Hesitation Marks and Add Violence in particular. This is great fun. And pushing the M8 always makes me happy.
