T-1000 is to blame

By jegasus on March 22, 2024 11:55 pm

Hi folks!

Here's another short little tune! It's pretty heavily inspired by the Terminator theme song. I also wanted to throw in one of the ScotRail Announcement samples that I found out about recently, so the tune ended up sounding like a dystopian subway station that's been partially exploded after an attack from the T-1000.

As per usual, this was all done in the Dirtywave M8 Tracker. Rendered straight from the device and pushed through Audacity to generate an MP3.

I hope y'all enjoy!

dude downloaded those samples right away, haha. I definitely get the Terminator vibes, but it feels like we're in a really beautiful marble station and the thing coming from the future to kill us is running late. I love it

Fantastic. Even with the time-warping the vocal samples add a really nice melodic and rhythmic backbone to the main terminator-esque motif, just great!

I predict there will be many Weekly Beats tracks with those samples from now on big_smile

This sounds like a level in Half-Life. Very moody, immersive stuff.

Nitpick: the fadeout is a bit abrupt, it would work better if it were longer than the release on your pads envelope. And the track is clocking at 110 seconds, so T-110 not T-100 haha

This is SO GOOD. I got the Terminator vibes right away, and I love the distorted/repeating vocal. It elevates the creepy, dystopian feel. I gotta start going through those ScotRail samples....

Hahahaha, that's exactly what I want to see/hear!!! Suddenly, next round of submissions, we'll have, like, 20 different submissions using these samples, hahahaha... Also, you helped me spot a typo in my title! It should have been T-1000, not T-100! Hahahaha... But yes, T-110 would have been the truly appropriate title =P
As for the fadout, that was on purpose. I was trying to keep the whole fade out to happen within the span of four "phrases" (M8 lingo, sorry - I'm not sure if that translates to one bar or four bars). But now, listening back to it, it does sound a bit jarring, I think I'd like to spread that out to at least twice as long.
Anyways, thanks for the listen!!

Thanks so much!!!! ❤️ As you've seen (heard?) from my M8 community jam submissions, I'm a huge fan of pitching vocal samples down. Not sure why, but I just LOVE how it distorts the human voice and makes things sound slightly eff'd, you know? Hahahaha...
And yes, I strongly recommend skimming through the sample pack, it has some great fun stuff!

this transitioned in a really cool way from your wb13

LOVE the sample usage

I just watched Terminator 1 and 2 with my daughter for the first time last week so this vibe was very fresh in my mind. Really great! Those Scots rail samples are nice too especially stretched out like that. 👍
