Tiny Ship Versus Big Boss

Howdy, friends!

I'm finally able to say that this is a song I worked on throughout the week, and not just 30mins before the deadline!!! And I have to say, I'm really, really happy with the outcome. Now, after making the song (but before naming it), I recognized that there were two FantomenK songs that had a strong influence on this one: The Massacre and A Tiny Spaceship's Final Mission. I think I first heard FantomenK's music from Ashley Burch's old YouTube series called Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin'? - they used it in a couple of their outros. The part that really influenced me from FantomenK's music, I think, was their use of a pitched noise instrument in The Massacre and the general feel of the little spaceship flying through space from A Tiny Spaceship's Final Mission. Both of those are just such great chiptune songs.

Anyways, I'm really happy with how this turned out. I wish I had been able to work better on the transitions, because right now every single transition is just "new instrument just abruptly starts or stops", thus making the song stay in the same "place" for its entire 4 minute runtime. That being said, I'm still really happy with how it came together! I might be able to use this as a live performance song by just staying on one of the main loops for a bit. Let's see. Will likely be coming back to this one to relisten to it quite a bit!!!

Excited to listen to the wild stuff y'all made this week, too!

Cheers!!!

Really happy you found the time to bring it up to a level you were excited about. Enjoyed this on the live meet and again now. There's a lot to love about it but I especially enjoy the zippy little glide lead that runs through most of it.

love love LOVE that FM sound - reminding me of some great Sega & Amiga soundtracks

there was also a cool secret chord change thing during the breakdown

JEGASUS DOES WHAT NINTENDON'T

OK, immediately I love the sound choices, and the buildup. The little pitch bend is sweet! And overall, just a great authentic chippy song that makes me want to dig out an NES and start level grinding!

From a simple and humble beginning it builds up into something quite epic and tasty and sounds like it would accompany a really fun game.

Hail yais love the intro build up.  Excellent exploration of the melody especially when that plucky lead comes in.  Also agree with Drew's excellent "jegasus does what nintendon't" comment heart

so many good little nuggets in this one that all come together to make this a CERTIFIED BANGER 🥇
This is a good reminder to get to making music this week. I always have a better time when I'm hacking away at something throughout the week and really let it breathe and become what it was meant to be.

snob voice: "i actually prefer jegusus early material, you know before they spent so much TIME on their tracks..."

I KID I KID, I LOVE THEM ALL

Catchy mood meld of a track. You've got the intensity and claustrophobia of those pointed chip waves with no reverb. You've got a gothic chord progression and ghostly theremin-like lead. You've got playfully funky countermelodies with all the mutes and syncopation (especially like the bass/column 6 rhythm in the bridge). You've even got a little wink at the listener with the 2-bar extension to the last bridge. Nice work!

Delicious layering! Love the rhythmic change up in that middle section. And man, bet I would suck at this game so much.
