sorrow

Howdy folks!

No comedy rap or Brazil stuff today. Today's tune is just a simple piano+synth doodle I had fun with on Saturday.

I got inspired to make some piano-sounding stuff after listening to two really inspiring songs from week 7: Alette's and Wynx's Week 7 submissions. Seriously, if you haven't yet listened to them, stop listening to my tune and go listen to theirs RIGHT NOW.

Anyways, my tune is SUPER heavily inspired by my favorite song from The Adventure Zone's Soundrack called "Arms Outstretched". The podcast consists of three brothers and their dad playing Dungeons and Dragons together, and this specific song I'm referencing happens during my absolute favorite moment of the entire show (around 50:54 of this episode). Just thinking about it now is actually giving me a frog in my throat, it's just so good!!!

Anyways, with my track, I took the same feeling of dread and sorrow from the beginning of that song and just stayed in there without progressing to the original's uplifting end.

This is a super short and simple tune - almost a doodle of a song, really. Fun, but with lots of space to come up with cool variations and additions.

This was done 100% in the Dirtywave M8, and the piano sounds are from a sample pack put together by Trash80 that consists of synthesized sounds from a Pianoteq piano. You can find the sample pack here.

Hope y'all enjoy this week's short and sweet submission! Looking forward to listen to what everyone else got up to!!!

Abraços!!!

Great inspiration source! I've been wanting to make a song inspired by TAZ Amnesty's theme, maybe I'll try it for next week. You definitely captured the TAZ vibe with this! Great work

I feel like you capture the sort of bitter sweet sadness of a true adventure (you have to leave, but then also, you have to come back). It reminds me of one of my favorite songs "Adventure" by Disasterpeace maybe it could serve as some inspiration as to where to take the adventure next.

Woah that's cool you did all the piano in the M8! Nice work!

I really like those pianos. The lower pads gives a somber feeling, the top melody is pretty. Well played.

Thank you, that's very kind!!! And I absolutely LOVED Fez, such an awesome concept for a game. "Disasterpiece" is amazing, I'm so honored that this little piece of mine even reminded you of that heart

Thanks!!! I did have to break the quicker-succession piano notes across two tracks so that one keystroke didn't cut out the previous one, and it actually worked surprisingly well! Doesn't sound like something I'd typically make on the M8.

Thank you so much!!! Yeah, I really liked the deep somber feeling that the distorted pad brought to the mix, really cool how some simple elements like these can really give a piece a different character.

Sorry for the random ping here, but I just wanted to thank you for the inspiration! Your Week 7's submission was just superb, and it's what inspired me to make this song - I just wanted to do something that was mostly piano-based. Thanks for being a part of WB, your tunes are incredible and are very aspirational for folks in the earlier part of their musical journey like myself smile

short and (bitter)sweet, cool to hear something like this from you on here

Thanks so much for the listen and kind comment!!! Yeah, I'm using WB to explore a BUNCH of different styles. I might even attempt some blue grass at some point, hahahaha...

Also, my apologies for the random ping here, but I just wanted to thank you for also being a big part of the inspiration for me to make this little piano tune heart

doodle or not, this is great! You know I'm a fan of some FAT bass and this tickles my ears just right.

That gritty synth gives some sinister vibes with the magical piano line.  The main arp of the piano is pretty hypnotizing.  Nice work!

A nice change of pace.  It's short and sweet, but it really captures a great vibe.  Wouldn't complain about hearing some more tracks in this style in addition to some more funny and crazy raps.

Nice composition! Great track

Nice stuff!

A fellow adventure zone fan (of which there are more than I imagined). I ought to relisten to balance, though I'm still catching up (currently at Dust season 2). Not sure if I have any favorite TAZ song, probably somewhere in Amnesty honestly.
You managed the tension really well here.

I love the rough synth over the sound of the clean piano! Excellent!

Can't believe I missed this - lovely mood and great use of that piano! I love the buzzy, kind of creepy synth under it. Some day I really need to listen to TAZ....

Thank you thank you!!! Fat basses can be indeed quite tasty to the ears, hahahaha...

Thank you so much! I feel like I want to explore things like these a bit more. The menace of the gritty synth with the cleanliness of the piano sounds like such a great pair!

Thank you so much for listening! And don't worry, there will be plenty of things in this style, I'm super fond of piano-based stuff like this!

Thank you so much! I was lucky enough to get to see them in person at a couple of their live shows when I lived back in Austin, it was great!
After Balance, I kept listening for a couple more seasons, but didn't feel as connected to the whole thing as much. Balance truly was lightning in a bottle.

Thank you thank you! It's such a cool combo, right? I feel like there's a lot more to explore in this genre. I'm definitely going to revisit this in the near future.

Heeey! It's my M8 Community Jam friend!!! Thanks for the kind words!! TAZ (like any RPG podcast) is an admittedly huge commitment. But the first season, Balance, is 1000% worth it. Had me in tears multiple times. Just so frigging good...

i'm not hip to taz but read your description and thought this was an adorable d&d gif smile
that podcast sounds like it's really sweet!

They did explain the setup for Balance was very different from the others, where it was meant to be a campaign that didn't necessarily needed to end, which brings a very different mindset.

Thank you so much to your nice message! I love hearing more piano on Weekly Beats so I'm happy if my song can inspire this smile The soft distortion ambient is good adding tension on the melody, it's a lovely song and the feeling is fitting your title heart

Oh yeah, totally. They explained they were going to try different systems and different GMs, and I was down to follow their new adventures. But somewhere along the line I just kind of fell out of the TTRPG hobby (or at least wasn't as involved with it as I had been before) and I just sorta stopped keeping up with TAZ. I think my wife still follows it, though. Every now and again she tells me some absurd or hilarious quote from it, hahahaha...
Anyways, thanks again for listening!!!
