Howdy howdy, weekly peeps!!!
I hope everyone had a great week. My wife is now fully recovered after getting knocked down with COVID a few days ago. The best part is that we don't have to isolate from each other anymore. Boy, I'll tell ya... Having to wear a mask to just hang out together on the living room couch sucked. Anyways, I'm happy that's now over.
Work has been intense, but in a fun way. Like last week, the thing that has been taking the lion share of my free time has been Baldur's Gate 3. So I ended up not dedicating almost any time (again) to music making. And this was another two-song submission weekend - the M8 Community Jam is also due today!!! In my attempt to get ahead of this, I spent some time on Saturday morning working on the song I had started several days ago for the M8CJ. Unfortunately, I was feeling super uninspired, so getting anything out of me was a bit of a struggle. After a little bit, I was able to wrap up the M8CJ song, but I was still coming up blank for Weekly Beats.
Searching around my sample library I finally found something fun: a castañuela or finger snap that felt clean. So I started putting down a cool little beat thingy and was able to get a little into it. After adding a few other elements, I noticed I was composing something that sounded A LOT like Crash Landing, a song I made for another M8CJ a few weeks back. Even though the similarity is there, this is still it's own thing. Funnily enough, both songs have a strong "exploring a new planet" to my ears, but this one specifically feels a little more playful, while the one from the M8CJ feels like there's a bigger potential for danger. The slightly more fun and whimsical nature of this one is what made me think of Pikmin.
While I was having fun making the song, I still had a very hard time finding interesting places to take it, so I cut it super short. This feels like a super low effort week. Again. I'm not liking this trend. I think I gotta get back to making some goofy ass raps.
I think I just need to finish BG3 and not have it occupy such a huge share of my attention, hahahahaha...
Anyways, all the sounds you hear in this song are from this Fairlight sample pack (released under CC BY 3.0). As usual, it was all arranged on the Dirtywave M8 Tracker.
Looking forward to listening to everyone's tunes!!!
PEACE!!!
