Calm Wonder

How's it going folks?

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I think I've lost a little bit of steam from the energy I had a few weeks ago, and I think it shows a bit in this submission. I only really started working on this a few hours before the deadline! Hahahahaha... I found a little sketch of an idea saved on my SD card and started fleshing it out until I got this thing. I feel there are still some very interesting things I could have done here, especially with the plucky lead synth - I still want to explore this melodic line a little bit further at some other time.

I didn't have all that much time to work on this week's submission because I've spent most of my music-making time this past week cooking up something for the current M8 Community Jam. The theme for the Jam is "Chemistry" and the optional theme is "Use a fart noise melodically" (suggested by me, of course). Depending on how things go this coming week, I might just submit that tune to WB as well!

Also, I've been spending quite a bit of time playing Baldur's Gate 3, so that's also been a challenge, hahahaahaha... The crappy work stuff is still going on, which continues to drain my energy a bit, but hopefully that won't be the case for much longer.

This was once again done in the Dirtywave M8 Tracker. Most of the sounds were from the M8's internal synths - I think the only sample I used was the rimshot/straw sound that keeps the tempo throughout the whole thing.

Hope y'all have a wonderful week, folks!!!

Well, it would be a miracle if we could maintain the same amount of hype for Weekly Beats over the course of the entire year! It's to be expected that some weeks are going to be slower. Great to be able to keep pushing things regardless. And I'm glad you did this week, the bass lead here is a good melody, and the accompaniment flows just right. In effect, the piece is short but well-executed!

Thanks, man, that's really kind of you! Yeah, I guess it'll be a bit of an ebb and flow throughout the whole year. I'm happy that there's space for us to send short simpler pieces like these too. I just don't want this to be a reason to allow myself to get "comfortable" and turn in shorter last minute projects like this very often. It's inevitable and will happen a lot, but I don't want to allow myself to lean on it too often.
Anyways, thanks again for listening!!!

The fact this isn't the last entry this year means you're still good to go. It's tricky navigating the lesser weeks, but you've still managed something good and perhaps you learned something from that as well.

Thank you, that's really kind. This is totally how I'm trying to approach things: I know not everything I make throughout WB will be a winner. But I just gotta keep the exercise up and move forward, trying to learn from every little piece.
Thanks again for listening!
