A Fighting Chance

Oh hi there! Sorry, you caught me by surprise, I wasn't expecting any visitors! But please do come in and have some tea, I just put the kettle on. Oh of course, I can most certainly tell you about the song I made this week!

This is a song I can imagine playing in a post-apocalyptic Terminator-like scenario where vast swaths of humanity have been destroyed by a sentient machine uprising, but some of us are still putting up a surprisingly strong fight. This song would be a reminder that there can still be hope in the midst of so much death and destruction, that victory is still possible. Actually, not just possible - LIKELY even.

The one definitely suffers considerably from "too much at the same time" syndrome, but I love how all these pieces overlap one another. If you pay attention, you can catch the interplay between the separate voices and it sounds super friggin cool. This is admittedly difficult to do given just how much is always being thrown at you, but still, I really enjoyed how it came out. Probably needs someone who knows what they're doing to give it a proper mix, hahahaha...

This was all put together on the Dirtywave M8 Tracker and uses a combination of samples and the M8's internal synth engines.

On the diary side of things, I've been lucky to be granted PTO for most of the week, so I've spent a lot of time chilling with family, which I sadly don't get to do anymore as often as I'd like. It's been a truly fantastic few days and I've been fortunate enough to get A LOT of music making time. So much so that I think I might have enough WB contingency projects for the rest of the year! These are mostly finished projects that just need a teeny little bit of polish. I still intend on making fresh stuff every week, but in case I can't, it's good to have these fall-backs up my sleeves.

Oh yeah, partially related: I made another "My Cousin Vinny" inspired song this week! This time it was for the M8 Community Jam, and you can check it out here. I think it's one of the weirdest and most fun ones I've made so far, mostly because of all the vocal chopping stuff I was able to do. Sorry for the shameless plug, but I really couldn't resist, especially after having made a similarly-themed song for WB during Week 16.

Anyways, I'm excited to hear what y'all have been up to! I hope everyone (who celebrates it) had a great Thanksgiving, and to those who don't, I hope you had an awesome week regardless of the holiday =P

And before I close this out, I just have to say: how is it possible that WB is almost done? Y'all have been such a crucial part of my musical journey this year and it's very sad to know it's coming to an end. I'm immensely grateful to everyone in this community. Being exposed to the vast array of genres and styles that people make here has really opened my ears and made me grow in really cool ways. And obviously, seeing y'all's kind comments on my simple and weird music makes me feel as though I'm a part of something bigger. Because I am!!!! I seriously cannot stress enough how you have inspired me to grow, develop and sharpen my music making skills. Seriously, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

PEACE, MUSICAL HOMIES!!!!

Wow, this is epic. Love how thick this feels, and all the layers are fantastic - so much going on, but all build to the whole. Also, nice choice on the fade our smile

I think this is one of your best - absolutely ending the year strong!!

Niiiice track. I like the choice of a ternary rhythm feel, which is not necessarily what one would expect from a terminator inspired soundtrack. Good job on the building of this piece. It really works in a cohesive manner and builds up and up.

The year is soon over! But if you want some more, join some of us who continue in 2025 on weekly streak (it's like 5-10 people so nothing in size compared to WB but good to continue keeping the rhythm).

YEAHHHHHHHHH! this is awesome.

Always down for some apocalypse waltz.

This is cool. It builds forward so well. Really shifts forward at 1:38 with the intro of that key line... I love that like lead line over the top  The bends sound so cool aha.

Loved the backstory, reading it and listening definitely set the scene.
Love the vibe, its epic, its post apocalpytic-y, has that sense of a triumph that is coming, that is on the way. Things are moving there...

Awesome one

Awesome.
Awesome
1:44 Ah the bends sound cool.
