Icy Blues

Slip and slide
from note to note -
I see icy land
and Boats

Sailing through
Uncertainly
Ice, for now -
Not endlessly.

This jazz blues waltz features clarinet, piano, upright bass, and drum kit.

Also, since folks were curious last time - this is actually *not* BIAB, but all instruments besides clarinet are samples. Piano and bass I played in, drums I selected (and tweaked) some MIDI loops.

The beginning makes me think of Debussy's Syrinx. And I love Debussy. And then it transforms into the quartet... awesome mood!

Appreciate the Debussy comment smile and yeah the opening is free improv but "in the style" of similar unaccompanied works (for clarinet - Osborne's Rhapsody, Stravinsky's Three Pieces, and Malcolm Arnold's Fantasy are the ones that influence me the most probably). More than a few of my tracks are me noodling on clarinet and adding reverb smile though this is one of the relatively few times I tried to make it transition into a more "normal"(ish) thing after.

What a gem to discover your clarinet playing! Amazing runs and technique! Nice exploration with band sounds as well. The only thing that bugs me is the snare sound, is a bit distracting and I'm not sure it adds a lot as much as it makes the beat more confusing. I am not good at drums so no idea how to fix it. Excited to hear more of your clarinet!

Yeah I fought with the drums the most, and probably should have fought with them more (they initially had a tom sound that bugged me even more, clashed w/bass - in retrospect, maybe I should have used hand percussion sounds and not a kit) - but, the point of a weekly track is to fight with things for a set amount of time! smile

And thanks! Clarinet really is my thing, everything else is just something I try to figure out well enough.

I'm not really a jazz connoisseur but sounds great!

Amazing. So beautiful and enjoyable. Congrats!

Cool Sunday morning groove
