cut - scorch - chaos

By Jason Nijjer on January 18, 2026 9:44 pm

Started this one out on the MPC, the tactile and portable nature of the hardware makes the chopping process really fun, nothing beats the large dial and the sound as it clicks while rotating.  Recorded some scratches from vinyl and finished things off in Ableton.  Heavily inspired by Dj Premier, always love how he adds bell sounds and creates a chorus from vocals from other records.  Thanks for all the positive comments over the last couple weeks, appreciate it.

Great beat - the drums hit just right and I'm a sucker for bells. The bells and strings give it a retro feel and scratching the string part is thrillingly disorienting.

a beat cut to perfection heart

Can't beat the sound of real scratches. Love how chaotic they get towards the end.

love the hum over tbe beat.  It gets a dusty and gritty feel to it.  Awesome scratching too. Love it!

Instant head nods. Love those bells and the warbling across the track. Dope track

this is oozing freshness, love it. sick beats scratches and atmosphere

Love how the in chop the drums on mpc. Those scratches are crazy! Great track!

That pitch wobble on the vibraphone sounds very compelling. I hoped for more vocal lines as the one you used does provide an excellent chorus, indeed.

Love the stereo field effects, and the scratches fit into the vibe so nicely, well done.

beautiful

Bouncing and belling like Premier, he rules. Digging the flow, nice cuts!

So fluid, at 1:30 the scratch into the transition is a nice touch. Primo is a legend, great artists to be inspired by. This is Fresh!!!

Also a delightful bit of Tricky x Portishead here. Absolutely love the vinyl scratches. That with the vocal distortion and bells really makes this quite spooky, its awesome!
