Seek the Thrill

By Janky Jams on February 22, 2026 1:38 pm

Got started late this week and ended up with some ambientish jank. Didn't like my initial take at first, then I streamed the patch for half an hour to get more in the groove (find the stream on the Earth Modular Society YouTube channel if you're interested), and then recorded a second take, this time with drums.
But in the cold light of the next day's relistening, I realized that I preferred my original take, so here you go!

Patch notes:
- Panning chord chaos from the Sdkc Instruments Helical through Serge Stereo VCFQ and an Avalon Harmonics PanVCA
- "Organ" voice from the Serge Medusa through Xaoc Zagrzeb
- Bass: Vhikk X
- Lead: Monumatic
Sequenced from Oxi One Mk2 and controlled from Neuzeit Drop.

I did multitrack this, but the raw mix came out "fine", so I decided not to bother reconstructing my mix in the DAW.

Headphones recommended!

They need to add this to the Minecraft creative mode soundtrack. Absolutely lovely, great work! goes to show the first take is sometimes the best one smile

Thanks heart I set up a patch to remote control them from the Drop, so I could control glide speed with one hand while switching chord with the other. This would have needed a fair amount more practice to master though, but I'm happy with how it turned out :-)

Thanks! I struggle with that pretty often. That itch to improve something and smooth out all the imperfections... I guess if there's at least at a baseline level of competence, it's probably fine to just ship it more often than not. Especially under time constraints like on WB...

Thanks! heart

Nice soundscape. Very janky! The lead is heart

So good, dude! So cinematic, a real good blend of ambient and synthwave elements. Favorited!

Aside from the hard pans in the intro, this is very pleasant

Awesome ambience and great progression! A friend of mine who also into modular recommended me your stuff, glad I found you here heart

Super chill and mellow, lovely work on the slow modulations.
Absolutely gorgeous piece.

Wow... right away I get the most delightful Laurie Andersom vibes, and bringing in that pad to fill out the hard-panned ping-pong pulses is just brilliant. This is wonderfully hypnotic but also such an intense mood, melancholy and dreamy. Really awesome song.

really lovely stuff, the stereo on the ping pong is absolutely entrancing heart

bassline is soft yet heavy when it comes in... the sine wave chords hovering in the background really tie everything together nicely.

This is so much better on my second listen after the stream. There is just so much going on here with so few elements, its really worth taking all in.
Great stuff.
