Lessons Not Learned

This one is weird...

I had to go away for the weekend (my usual WB time), so on Thursday I found this little guitar bit in the ol' idea vault (the intro bit), transcribed it to piano, thinking it'll make a simple little instrumental to get me by for the week...

Yeah, so that didn't happen... Instead, something way more ambitious than I had time for emerged (oops).

I wanted super boomy beats, but I quickly ran into mastering issues as I tried to rush the finish up; either too quiet overall, or the beats were slamming the comp in weird ways.

I uploaded what I had just before leaving, but as a last minute thought, I threw the master file on the cloud in case I could call on huge emergency favour from Nyarlos, and mega thankfully he was able do quick master for me, so your ears can thank him for better a listening experience smile (he is much better at this stuff than me, I usually just keep trying presets til it sounds decent)

Anyhoo, the song; well, it is... a song... It is an example of going with each of the first things that came to mind, just boom, boom, boom, yep, that's how that's going to be, ain't got no time for trying other ideas. For better or worse, there is less overthinking going on in this than usual. The lyrics could be better and I intended to flesh them out a bit, but eh, it is what it is.

Wow. I get NIN vibes. The huge drums are awesome. I (almost) never put reverbs on my kick drums but this track makes me want to try to do that some times...

Vocal harmonies are so good.

That drop at 1:30 is awesome! Love the creative use of panning, and that heavy synth tying it all together. Definitely agree that this has some NIN vibes, especially with the vocals at ~2:00

nice vocals man; the dark and emotional vibe is heavy. Vibes like NIN/Depeche Mode + Dead Can Dance ruminate from this. Piano and layered pads are beautiful. Regarding the drums, just do another mix or something - this arrangement is pretty freaking sick. The chaos in the middle after the vocals are neat too! Great job smile

Pretty crazy, goes pretty hard.
