(Pulling Things Back) From the Brink of Destruction

This feels like a bit of a rush job - started the week with great intentions - I had the opening riff to this song left over from the week before, developed it into a V/C/V/C/B/O structure, wrote some lyrics then forgot about it! Suddenly it's 10pm on Sunday and I have a streak to uphold! This is not my finest mix/master job, but musically I am happy with the song.
Think I'll push myself away from Open C tuning for a bit - what was a great method of getting out of a musical rut a few months ago, has simply created new, different habits that I am falling into with songwriting, so I'll try something else for a bit.
I have used the Ernie Ball string mute noodles on this tune - very pleased with these, as they had been teased at NAMM '25, but not released until a month or so ago - more experimentation needed with these for sure!
Anyways, enjoy this over-compressed pop-punk-esque tune - I hope you have a good week!
Lyrics:
Verse one
This won’t
Work if
we don’t
talk it out
and I know
you hurt
when I say
those three words
if we
don’t try
we might as well
give it up
and if you
look at
the way its going
its enough
Chorus
Turning it on
we’ve been here before
pulling things back
from the brink of destruction
Ive heard it before
Im all out of words
Whats done is done
its all been said
Verse two
We tried
it worked
at least for
a little bit
I guess we’re
not meant to
have love
forget it
I’ll see you
sometime
somewhere
in a while
maybe
then we’ll
give things
another try
Chorus
Turning it on
we’ve been here before
pulling things back
from the brink of destruction
Ive heard it before
Im all out of words
Whats done is done
its all been said
