‹ The Process
I tried to start pretty early as I already had a few lyrics jotted down from the previous week and had been thinking about writing a song in this theme for while. That didn't really make it easier in the end! I did practically all the music and recording work over Saturday and Sunday afternoons. I interspersed recording guitar with writing and recording vocals (I decided I needed to switch microphones for each
) and didn't want to over complicate the music too much. Our budgies also like to sing along when I'm recording, so you might be able to hear them a little in the mix.
I really wanted to introduce a bass guitar, but I don't have one, so had to stick with bass synth which can't really have the same rhythm and feel at all. I came up with a great idea for the bridge, recorded it and then realized it was in a different key to the rest of the song! Then I had to find a way to get it to work without sounding to jarring when switching key. I don't really think I nailed it, but I tried! Also not super happy with the combination of sounds or the arrangement in the end, but it is what it is. Until next week. -freezedream
‹ Lyrics
Verse 1
There's a tightness in my chest
My aching legs need rest
I'm feeling the burn right now
A weariness in my soul
I'm giving up control
Lost sight of the finish line
Verse 2
Souls of my feet are worn
But still my heart moves on
Keeping pace with the spirit now
My Saviour's at the end
So I'll fix my eyes on him
I'm learning to persevere
Chorus
Run
Run with endurance
Run
In the strength that you provide
Run
Run with endurance
Run
Lay your burdens down
Verse 3
Sometimes I get off track
Your mercy calls me back
You tend to my every need
And even through the rain
You see me in my pain
My weakness makes your strength shine
Verse 4
Sometimes I glance behind
And stumble in the night
Forgetting you've paid it all
And when my head hangs down
You're holding out a crown
The life that my Saviour won
Bridge
But still I press towards the goal
Though sometimes tangled
This I know
That Jesus ran the race before
He's beckoning me on
So I keep driving onward
