808Primate

This one has been bouncing around in the trash bin for a few WB... decided to revamp it with all Sytrus patches to make it shareable. This meant having to recreate an TR-808... did a quick and dirty emulation of it with lots of liberty taken(looked up some frequencies in the schematics, but didn't look up the filter freqs or envelopes), but turned out way better than I was expecting, so I might have to finish and polish the kit! Also recreated a few other patches using Sytrus, which also sound pretty close to the originals.... I can't believe it has taken me this long to realize what a real sleeper hit Sytrus is!
Download the 58kb project here!

you're the man!

Lush vibes right here.

I honestly can't really comprehend or decipher how this was made, but its damnnnnn groovy.  I cant NOT groove my head to this.

Gots to love the 808.

So cool. I followed along in the flp, reallllly cool to see what's behind the curtains. I love the melodies.

Sweet dude, the sound design on this is top notch.  Love the pitch bend you do on that little rhythmic melody.  Big fan of the synthwavy tr808 animation too.

Wow, that 808 in Sytrus is amaze balls. Really sweet vibe!

Great texture - slippery and shiny.  Interesting chords and rhythms too.  Feels danceable and a little mysterious!

Those melody overlaps are dripping with sweetness. The pitch shifted cowbell is the cherry on top! I dig this one!

you are the champ. awesome composition.

Great stuff. The drips in the background were awesome.

You had me at 808!

Oh hell yes.  Super-tasty groove, fine melodies...808tastic!

Damn, your BASS is in my head! Super tasty and groovy. Great track title, but how but some love for the Linn?

Not as crazy as A Silly Scope though!

Originally it had some pitch bendy reverb, since Massive's reverb can change size without stopping creating pitch bend goodness, but flstudio's reverb can't dot that, but their delay3 does this, so it's kinda close.

Surprizingly not as difficult as I was expecting since there wasn't any fm synthesis, just summing and filtering.

I love a good mystery dance!

Lol, the Linn drum sounds might have been overused in my past WB years; it's such a classic! Fortunately the binary samples can simply be ripped from the eprom. Unfortunately recreating them using synthesis isn't an option! Although Fl studio does come with a few Linn drum samples, I didn't want to rely on any samples. Plus Sytrus is fun!

Not sure I want to live in a world where Linn drums can be over used smile  But much respect to the 808 and recreating the classic sounds. Super tight track!

This is so unbelievably crisp and clear. Absolutely brilliant work on this!

I've been trying to cut out as much 3rd party plugins lately (especially for projects I share), and moving away from analog sounding mastering in general, so I've been bringing the higher frequencies back into my mixes which does give everything a crisper sound!

Gotta love dat 808 sound.  I especially enjoyed that bendy lead that comes in later.  Reminded me a bit of Plaid.  The bass with the pads especially on one of those chords just sits so nicely in the mix and was pure ear candy!

Ooh Plaid!

Yes, but why limit yourself to someone else's machine, when you can make your own, go for the 809 you always wanted it to be.

As usual, great vibes.  Love the 808 and those melodies.

I wouldn't say limiting, more like studying the masters! I learned some cools stuff, like that the cowbell is just two summed square waves 800Hz and 540Hz attenuated with a envelope and band pass filter. The crash is surprisingly not a noise generator, rather six summed square waves at various frequencies! Crazier still, it came about from a fortuitous tea accident! So lots of great ideas to use in my own stuff! Now I need to start building a tea based drum synth. The T08.

Thanks!

T08 is as good a name as any other for your own.
