See What Sticks

Happy end-of-Q1, everybody!  We're ¼ through 2022, and an entire row on the Weeklybeats calendar is now complete.

I focused on sound design this week, making lots of alternate sections to try various things―then throwing them all against the wall.  The parts that stuck ended forming this transition from a growly ambient slowdance into... something a lot more peppy and cheerful (Europop?).  I've never made anything like it before, but that's one of the charms of WB.

As usual for the last two months, the track was 100% made and mixed on a Dirtywave M8 Tracker.   Most of the drum hits are samples; everything else was built from scratch using the built-in synths.  Each week I find more uses for the M8 sequencer's tables: this time it was building up complex multi-effects that morph over a long schedule.

This sticks alright! I had no idea the M8 could do all this stuff. Thanks for explaining what was happening. Nice work!

i like how this progresses - the transitions between the sections sound seamless to me and the sections themselves each hold their own with their own special idea.  i would love to see a breakdown of this song and explanations of the complex table automation - i'm still parsing the table you showed me in the M8 discord - that sort of long automation within tables technique is good knowledge to have

This track is every flavor I like heart. The lead is impeccably articulated, but the intro absolutely takes the cake for me, "future-goals" kinda good.

this track vibez so beautifully like falling and flying all at the same time heart

Ahh so pleasant. Nice work.

Spacious curious and pleasant! Great track!

That was really enjoyable. I like the atmosphere right out of the gate; it sounds so spacey. Like being surrounded by waves of sound. Excellent work

I wonder, that you have really done all these melodies on so many synth with plenty of effects on one single device. The M8 seems to be revolutionary. I would not need to have the basement full of analog equipment anymore. This song came out nicely, spacey and poppy in the end. Good work.

I'd say the whole thing works

Dude, I loved the way that this track sped up and got more poppy. I also really liked that bass instrument. The way it all comes together at the 2 minute mark feels so joyous. Awesome track!
