Doggone Bluemix

By ineff on June 11, 2022 11:01 pm

After jimmac's funky drum from last week, I went dumpster diving in the Library of Congress' Citizen DJ project and found some 100-year-old public domain "blues" tracks to chop up into... maybe electro swing?  With train whistles.

LoC sources:

Dangerous blues (1921)
Everybody's crazy 'bout the doggone blues, but I'm happy (1917)
Paradise blues (1916)

100% made and mixed on a Dirtywave M8 Tracker.

bedlam, absolute mayhem, such a good bop

Awesome work. Bringing back the blues was needed so much. thank you for this track.

It's a crazy combo that works.

This is what I had in mind when I initially went history hunting, but couldn't pull it off and went too hard on mangling the samples. Glad I at least managed to get someone more competent on the job smile

Lovely track, m8.

This is, like, "research scientist" type level of mashup skill -- up there w/ the best of them. Impressive in every sense: technical work on display is undeniable, but also just a badass beat. heart

haaaaa so sweet how brass and old school samples mix well with that warbling bassy groove...
ohhhh that's a sexy sound!

Fantastic mashup and manipulation of the samples, it’s like The Prodigy meets the blues, I love using Citizen DJ, have used it many times and such a fun site to explore.

I don't know what I'm more thankful for, this bop or the Citizen DJ link. What a cool project!

But it’s probably the bop. Man, this takes me back to my college days. Swing parties were the big social event of the month. Big nerds.

Can't believe you pull all this off on the M8. Sample-wise, I still haven't gotten beyond one-shots. Looks like I have to go back and reevaluate its chopping chops. What a crazy capable box!

I love this clash of sounds from different areas. The brass synced with the kick starts a nostalgic groove and then we get the dark bass entering around 0:25 adding a more aggressive layer. The section from 0:51 on put a large smile on my face. This is really beautiful. For some reason, it feels like a modern psychedelic remix of a Looney Tunes cartoon. I love it, very inspiring! I'll need to go back to that library of congress database!

I'm with Kedbreak136, this has some funky psyedelic remix feels to it.  The looniness getting a modern twist.  Excellent idea chopping up stuff from the LoC.  I get lost on those sites for hours sometimes smile
