This week I'm very happy with my composition! It's a soft slow song about love and taking a break, figuring out what's important (spoiler: it's love). I'm in Romania so I'm using my old french LAG guitar, recorded with iPhone video (which somehow makes it stereo, v nice). The song was inspired by a sweet group of friends from yesterday's pre-wedding get-together. And their dog.
Dedicated to Mark and Mihaela, the soon-to-be-weds. La mulți ani!

I composed and wrote the lyrics today, after arriving back home in the afternoon. Struck by inspiration at around 5-6pm. I then went out to record because my room here is a bit crap for recording, and then I found the only quiet place was the cemetery. I think those folks won't mind so yea, hope you all are cool with it too. The golden hour was great but it totally missed my face. I did another take with the face lit up but 1. it sounds worse and 2. it looks worse. So first take it is!
I started the composition by choosing to go with only 3 notes on the guitar, per chord, to see what kind of harmonies I can come up with. I think it was an amazing idea because it gave me totally new material to work with, even tho in the end I arrived at pretty classic chords: D, G, A, E (and some spicy ones too). This time I wanted the composition to have a chorus that can be sang along to and I think I somewhat managed. My fav part is the ending of the chorus.
I wrote fairly quickly because I had a lot of inspiration from our evening and morning chats. We shared our frustrations with modern life where we get addicted to the phone and technology and lose touch with nature, and realized we are not alone. But most of all, we were kind to each other and that was so nice! Not unusual, just very nice and unusually touching.
I hope you all cry. Enjoy!

Turn off your wi-fi
Close your computer
Listen to your breath
Step into nature
Connect with your soul
The silence in your head
Suppress the madness
Welcome distractions
(Chorus)
The pursuit of love
Remember the feeling
And if you don't remember
Try to invent it.
Track down your friend
Hold onto their hand
Look in their eyes
For a very long time
Find out what love is
Find someone who knows it
Ask them about it
Listen to their story
Don't waste your time
...
This is your sign
...
(Chorus)
The pursuit of love
Remember the feeling
And if you don't remember
Try to invent it.
...
You don't have to hurry
You don't have to worry
...
(Chorus)
The pursuit of love
Remember the feeling
And if you don't remember
Try to invent it.
Fantastic feel on this - the sparse chords are great and really open it up. Love the performance and the sentiment. And congrats to the soon-to-be-newlyweds!

Everything is true what you say. Somehow the guitar chords remind me of something I have in the back of my head.
Very very nice. Have a good time. P.S.: this was a nice spot to make a video.

very sweet tune and performance. love the setting as well for the video.
that "try to invent it" line is so good (both the words, as well as how the melody works over the chords)
