It's so easy to say "I love you"

By horatiuromantic on June 7, 2026 11:37 pm

I had a nice conversation today with my friend Sabine, and I decided to put my thoughts into this song. I always sing about love and even my internet nickname is horatiuromantic but I am actually not so good at expressing love outside of my songs...

I'm very happy with how the song turned out. I find the melody very catchy and familiar, I'm not sure I stole it from somewhere but please let me know if you recognize it haha. I think the B part is heavily influenced by "it ain't me, babe" by Dylan, but apart from that I don't think it's from anywhere in particular.

I wrote and recorded it in ~6h. It would be nice to put more layers like an organ or voice or an instrumental solo somewhere, but I didn't have time and also I should learn the song better and play it live a few times before putting in more effort on the production..... I think that's a good rule of thumb! Hope you enjoy it!

The verse is so wonderfully structured. This has the classic weekly beats thing of 'parts were rushed, I could add more' but it also captures the song just as it is formed, and it's still a wonderful thing.

I love this.
If you can't say it, then sing.

heart

it does bring to mind a little bit Jim Croce's 'I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song' but i don't think it's so similar that it's a rip off or anything.
i like your voice in this kinda laid back feel

Cool! Thanks for listening! I haven't heard this one before, but I find it very different. maybe only the 1 - 3m chord change and of course the topic is quite similar.

Indeed it feels good to sing this one, it's smack in the middle of my comfortable range. I have to think about that.

Thanks for the appreciation! Yeah... You gotta do something, it's better than nothing!

Haha, yes! Classic WB move, but temporary solutions like this tend to become permanent. Still, I think playing it a few times live will chisel the rough edges and maybe lead into making some kinda 3rd verse or better transition back after the chorus. I already feel like I wanna come back to the verse after the chorus, just because of the structure, altho I don't know what to say for a 3rd verse, and repeating the first doesn't seem right...

I can imagine you doing a duet with Kermit The Frog on this one! delightful

Feelings like this make more sense in a less polished environment. That said, I love how peaceful and earnest this is, and your front & centre vocals stand out from the gentle guitar just right.

It feels familiar to me too, but not because I think you "stole" anything, just like this song has a familiar cozy vibe somehow

Nice, with a classic feel.

such a sweet song! very honest. I love the spring reverb coming out more clearly at times

That's true! but if you listen to like Shirley Horn you can hear some thing like this that's very polished and yet very deep and soulful and sensitive and touching and intimate ....... she's great!
