Dreams

Another banger of a pop-folk song this week. I worked on the lyrics and melody for two weeks, guitar part was kinda ready last week and I kept playing with it until I settled for this progression. The concept was to try and use only one finger on the strings, and in the end it was very inspiring to see what can be created this way, altho I added some more fingers where needed. I found even more cool voicings that I had to drop cause I didn't find a way to include them! I also have a bridge for it in the works, but I didn't manage to finish and my fingers hurt from playing - I think I need a new guitar with softer strings, or just to adjust this one.

Guitar was recorded with iphone, because it adds that thick compression that hides some stuff. Voice rec with shure sm58. Added Neve preamp with extra midrange, and plate reverb to the voice.

I added a simple bass with the builtin logic electric bass sound, and cut mid to high and added neve to it as well. somehow I believe in my head that this neve gives some nice grit, altho if you gave me an A B test I am pretty sure I won't notice the difference.

Finally I added the soft piano notes, with thick TAL reverb and tape saturation, and also added the water sound which is actually a river sound from here: https://freesound.org/people/Leo_Touroult/sounds/389158/

On the master bus I added lexicon digital reverb, LA2A compressor, and Verve analog machines "warm" preset to mess up the sound a bit more, to give it a layer of glue. it makes it sound kinda nostalgic, kinda glued. I like it this way, altho for sure I could do a much nicer sounding version one day when I decide to make an acoustic guitar vocal album which I definitely will... someday!

Lyrics are a bit wack but tried to make them nice and poetic and a bit abstract. I wonder if any of you will notice the cute little surprise in them!

I also made a video, on the Tuesday after submitting. It's a brand new recording, this time guitar+voc is from the Rode NT-2 and the rest is overdubbed. I experimented with recording video and layering it on top. Also went the extra mile to add the lyrics to the video. It was a painful process to add the lyrics, but the video stuff only took a bit more time but otherwise was fun to do. Wish I had a faster process but I guess spending about half a day on it is still pretty decent.

This guitar sounds like something I can believe in. Same goes for the piano.

Super pretty!!! The guitar pairs really well with the piano here. Nicely done!!!

A very warm and heartwarming track. The iphonerecording captured your guitar very well. I should try this trick as well.

the lyrics for this are probably my favorite part with the guitar as a close second, and the line "cast my little spell" that was so clever,

Thanks! It's all about cutting corners sometimes! Until I accumulate more compositions to make another album, I'll do them a bit more lofi from now on.

Thanks so much! I struggled a bit with the lyrics, but going a bit weird was a good idea, because now they are more poetic and whimsical, and you can come up with different meanings for many lines. it's not so clear what I'm talking about, but the vibe is there. Appreciate the comment!

Very dreamy.

lovely work, horatiuromantic! those piano parts that come in and the low bass notes really support the finger-picked guitar, and your vocal melody playfully coasts over the top.
i also believe in dreams heart

Another banger indeed!
