Cup of tea

By horatiuromantic on May 3, 2026 11:59 pm

Cup of tea! It's a cute little song inspired by a HUGE RAIN that caught me on the way home just now. I passed by a beautiful flowery tree in the crazy rain, and the blooming branches were hanging low due to the extra weight, so I had to hit the branches with my head as I biked under the tree. The smell was awesome!!!

I was on my way home from an open mic (CPH Listening Room) where I played a couple of songs, it was really nice to be back there after months!

It's a quick and dirty but surprisingly good sounding track. Started on it around 00:00 so almost exactly 2h of work from idea to final product! I wrote the lyrics first in about 40min, and I am sure I stole the groove from somewhere but idk where right now. Hopefully there's enough new going on in the compo that it's not totally plagiarism. In any case if it is, it's unintentional, but let me know if it reminds you of anything!

I tried to play it on acoustic at first, but then I figured let me go with electric. Messed around with virtual amps but eventually the best sound was from my Roland Cube amp, clean, plus a spring reverb, thru the line out. I thought I would strum it the whole way, but after MANY attempts on the guitar, I landed on this kinda bossa type fingerpicking (not sure what to call it) with the occasional strum when it gets more intense. I think once I practice there is a really cool thing I can do to play the melody on the low strings as I accompany myself.

I did takes of the guitar until it was good enough (2 takes stitched together), then the vocals, then the santana style fills to make it a little more full. The fills are literally the last thing I did 5 minutes before the deadline so I didn't even have time to listen back. I'm very happy with this composition!!! CRAZY that I almost gave up again on making something this week.

Super glad you the did put the effort into this one - thank you this is great

This is so good! Heard this at the Meet last night, and had to come back to it again. Guitar has a great jazz feel to it, with the voicings and lead line - and I love that they get to stand by themselves. I could imagine this with a jazz backing of bass/drums/maybe piano, but the spring day lightness it has as a solo gives it such a bounce.

And the lyrics!

I can feel you close to me
or is that a flower
From this blooming tree?

Delightful and cozy and just feels like new love. Favorited heart

This absolutely is my cuppa tea!

I'd actually love to go for some tea.
This tree is the best, it probably composed this song too.

smooth, joyful, sweet... just like a bike ride home after the rain lets up  smile

I love the super wet spring on the chords.

Lovely playing and chord voicings, totally in the pocket.

I can use a cup of tea right now, and this song fits perfectly while I stare into the distance.
It has all the good vibes to make me comfortable and cozy.
Great stuffs! *hugs*

Electric was the right call. This made me put a beer down for a second and think about a tea before picking the beer back up.

I love this, from the first few seconds, all the way through. Great job! nice guitar chord voicings. vocals could be a little louder in the mix, according to my monitors. but still a+

A lovely tune for a stroll in the sun

Great playing and really nice vocals. Lovely tune!

such a nice vibe!
