Vaporflute

For week 1, I was looking for a flute sound and came across the "Vaporflute" instrument made by laamaa. It didn't work for my track that week, but I liked the loop I made, so that was the basis of this week's composition.

Originally I wanted some harder industrial drums to come in. Even recorded myself "beatboxing" what I wanted it to sound like, but then I spent too much time playing around with FM drum creation and never really got the sound I wanted. I did end up liking the more chill drums I ended up with though (which also may have been a preset someone else made. I don't remember for sure).

I also took a look at Trash80's bundle for week1 to figure out how to make a sound that "growls". I was surprised to learn he didn't use FM, but instead used the hypersynth. I used the same for my opening chords.

Overall, I had fun writing this. The first couple days came really easy and I had lots of ideas. I like the variations in the drum track and made me realize I need to plan more in future tracks for how to vary the energy throughout my songs in the future.

But at some point, I ran out of ideas. I had something I really liked that brought the energy up to a point and then the song ended. So I tried to add a middle and an ending. I tried some weird tricks I thought might work, but ultimately, I tweaked it too much and I'm not as happy with what I ended up with.

Oh well--on to week 3.

It's so easy to get sucked into that FM synth and lose track of time!

Really like the sound design on that lead at ~0:33

I think this song has a great foundation. I enjoyed it! Even if you’re not thrilled with how it sounded in your head to where it ended up, you have a bunch of new tools in your back pocket now that you can reach for to produce this week’s track.

Like Antler said, the FM Synth on the M8 is a beast. Easy to get pulled into the vortex of power there. Haha!

Great work!

Opening chords certified awesome, but don't discount that blown synth opening sound.
