Love's gonna get you

This submission feels like cheating a little as the finishing mixing and mastering is not done by me, but the educator of a workshop I participated in this weekend.

We each submitted a track for him to demonstrate some mixing and mastering techniques on, and I chose an unfinished track I started on back in autumn, mostly because it had vocals to work with. I rerecorded the lead vocals and did some adjustments to the procution this weekend as well before handing it over, but I definitely had plans to add more elements and strucuture to it.

However, hearing how much better the sketch sounded after he had done some mixing and mastering, realistically I'm not too keen on going back to production as that means working in my own mix again. For now at least it gets to live on Weekly Beats as a finished track with quite minimalist production and arrangement.

To his credit he only had like 25 minutes to work on it, while also having to demonstrate and answer questions. Something happened to the backing vocals which we simply didn't have time to catch in the midst of wrapping up the course. Still, I really think he got the mood of the song just right, and it was massively inspirational to watch the process and see how - on paper - simple adjustments in EQ, compression and reverb on the stems made such a massive difference.

I've never been excited aboout mixing before now, but I'm really looking forward to working more on it now. I promise that all mixing will be done by me here on after, scouts honor!

Late night jam. So warm and soulful!

The vocals aren't really popping here, but it's a very sensual song either way. Smooth.

love the warbly/tape distorted chords. It's a jam! Favorited!

It's amazing! lovely backing vocals and vibe and heart heart heart the looping vocal line!

how do you mean on paper??? the mixing workshop sounds super fascinating. would love to know what the fella did in such short time, and how bespoke or generic his solution.

Smooth.

Yeah, mixing (and mastering) are quite a job... For somebody that does that 40 + hours a week and have experience, mixing a "simple" song in 25 mins will do better than me in multiple hours going back and "breaking" the vibe more then enhancing it.

It is all good, there is not rules about having to do all from the start to finish for the submitted track.

I am doing music as a hobby for a while and now I know that the mixing - mastering part are not the things that I prefer, so I have my go to that (mostly) work for what I do, especially for demo or stuff I don't plan to release on all platforms...

But yeah it can be fun I suppose! and you can change quite a bit the energy-vibe of a song by mixing choices.

And I enjoyed the track a lot by the way!

Very soulful and chilled music. The lesson I learned here is: less is more.

So chill and cozy, vocals are killer and just a great vibe all around. The reverb (I think) on the snare is perfect.

i like this a lot, thank you

Inspiringly smooth.

oh my GOD this warbly synth pad is gorgeous. love the distant flute as well. super chill.

Super pleasant! Hope to hear more of your stuff on weekly beats!

Super chill track. I wish those vocals popped a bit more, but this is so so close to perfection.
