The Climb

This has been a crazy week.
My son turned one years old yesterday!

To be honest, it's been a crazy year.
Started off with my little man being dragged into this world, forgetting to take his first breath, and then spending 11 days in the NICU, terrifying his mom and me.

The pediatrician told us that every time he got excited, cried, etc., his heart rate would soar, and his blood oxygen levels would drop. Essentially he couldn't live without being hooked up to a bunch of machines. He was tangled in a mess of wires and machines, and we were tangled in the fear that our little boy might never live a normal life.

As time went on, the pediatrician encouraged us, but could never give us a solid answer about when we'd be able to take Isaac home. We spent 11 days driving to the hospital, with my wife (who should have been on bed rest) braving the pain of recovering from surgery, to see her little boy.

We were thrust into the deep end of parenting very quickly.
I'm very happy to say that our Isaac isn't just living a normal life, he's thriving. Growing up before our eyes, keeping us on our toes and filling our hearts with a love we never knew was possible.

This week, leading up to his first birthday party (Pokémon themed), I've been thinking a lot about the journey he's gone through in his short life.

It's a journey I didn't set out to write a song about, but on reflection, it feels like it's exactly what this piece is about.

Thanks for listening to and reading about my cheesy little love song to life.
Happy birthday, Isaac.
I love you and your mom more than anything!

Happy birthday to your son and his family—in light of your write-up, this sounds ever bit as beautiful and triumphant as it ought to.

Happy birthday, Isaac! He sounds like a fighter and a great like dude. Sorry he gave you guys such a scare, but I'm glad he's doing well, and I hope someday he can listen to this and know just how much his dad loves him heart

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, man! Yeah, he's amazing! And that's a nice thought, imagining him listening to this when he's a little older and recognizing where it comes from.

Cheers!

Happy birthday to the little guy and very happy he is doing good! Love this one. Great uplifting melody and very nice progression. Loving those high notes most people are scared of using. Favourited!

Haha yeah, I wanted that melody to feel like it was soaring ever higher. So the high notes felt like exactly what it needed.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Cool track, very triumphant and hopeful… which totally makes sense.  I like the use of portamento to get those big upward slides, very cool ear catching effect.

That is such a sweet song, it sounds very hopeful for the future indeed. So glad to hear your family made it through that horribly insecure time. Happy birthday to your Isaac!

great vocals ahhah! really happy for you, that's a crazy story!

beautiful synths as well, the whole production is very pro! cheers!

sorry. I liked the synths from this one, but by the time I looked at the timecode it was already playing the Playpen with the kids voice big_smile so in my head this was the same track! but hey they both share the good production and synth sounds. tho this one has more nostalgic feel in the harmonies and everything, and this is what caught my ear in the first place. ahhh i must be tired after work. anyway cheers man, great tunes, keep em coming!!!

Yeah the M8 is pretty incredible with portamento. The way you can start a pitch bend at any point during the note, and decide how quickly it rises and falls. Took a bit of getting used to, but it feels very intuitive now. Glad you like it!

Thank you so much! Yeah it was a rough time, but it kinda feels like a dream now. Glad you like the song!

Haha thanks so much! Glad you like both songs! I messed with a lot of FM synth on this one. It was a little challenge to myself. Nothing super crazy, but it was fun to try decipher FM which is totally out of my comfort zone.
Anyway, thanks for the encouragement. Loving all your songs as well!

Thank you! Melancholy seems to be a theme in my work, getting a lot of comments like that. Sad music is generally my favourite kind, so it makes sense!
