Eclipse Cold

This week was such an amazing week, I can't even describe how lovely it's been here in the spring in st louis, weather wise and lots of flowers blooming. I did catch a cold or hayfever, from being allergic to pollen. there are so many different plants in this area of the country been a little subdued by not taking anything for allergies, lol.
I was able to see the eclipse by taking pictures of it with my phone, and the phone still works! it was fun but I wasn't QUITE inside the total eclipse area, in St Louis, but i felt its effect. especially when the temperature rapidly dropped for a few minutes! it was interesting being outside in a public city space at the time.
an old friend passed through so we had a house guest because of the eclipse, which is pretty rare. my partner was in recovery from medical procedure so it was also a different kind of week because of that. also, the week prior we adopted a cat that was still in recovery, so we didn't know when we would get the cat. The call came in on Wednesday however, sooner than expected.
The point of all that is that it was a very busy, beautiful week, and I made this song on Saturday night to celebrate a very unique week on the calendar with total eclipse vibes and what feels like a new era beginning. I made this song to celebrate that and wanted it to feel very human but cold at the same time, showing the power of the eclipse's covering up of the sun for a brief amount of time. I used two analog synthesizers for the melodic performative parts, but the base of the track is midi and loop based. This is my foray into the slayer sample pack that cymatics released for free. i just dove right in and started throwing around some midi sections and a few beat loops to help drive the song some. the midi is mostly controlling Emergent Drums (vsti) sample sets, randomly generated. it reminded me somewhat of when i was in my first band in the 90s, an industrial band! but the lush analog synth sounds are a bit more aphex twin, maybe. thanks again for listening!
