I finally finished BSG second round. Now it's just porn. Less Netflix/HBO Nordic = more music.

Ohm Studio?

It only takes 10minutes to create a track:
Check the Beat This episodes where producers create new track in ten minutes.

Here is two my favourites:
Toddla T speaks most of the time big_smile

Four Tet creates track using only random samples from Thriller LP:

I feel like with a combination of knowing what I want to make before I start, knowing how to efficiently use my program of choice, and knowing what to do for mixing/mastering I can finish most of my weebees in 1-6 hours (also depending how distracted I get).

I have no idea what i'm going to to do before i start. Only thing that i try to do with weekly beats is to do something new in every track. Use new synth, controller, new brand of beer… It helps (or not) that i'm no genre producer. I have no idea what music style the track will be. I'll try that the tracks have at least 10bpm difference. So no 140bpm every week big_smile

I was thinking that i develop good mastering chain during the weeks, but already forgot it last week. Latest track is a bit quiet as it has no master limiter.

My kid goes to bed 9PM so there is few hours every evening (maybe). Sundays i get more time due the Weekly Beats mix down session wink

Strangely i have now done more music that i did before i had kid.

I really like Ableton for slapping together things quickly using loops and samples and it's 'flex' algorithms seem to be the best out there. I've never liked mixing in Ableton though I think the traditional DAW setup (Logic and PT) is better workflow for this

IMO ableton have one of the worst 'flex' algorithms still in V9. It's great on beats and such but can't really time stretch complete song properly. I didn't either never mix in Ableton for years. I just could not get as good mixes as i could get with logic. I don't know when it happened, but currently i'm comfortable on mixing with both. Ableton sucks on tracking (one of the biggest features needed in DAW). V9 and not even simplest comping available yikes

Bitwig is very interesting, but if it will be iLok protected then it's no go for me. Dongles in 2014? No thanks.

ReNoise is tracker so you can't really compare. $300 is not bad price if it would include at least four major updates. If it's free until 2.0 and then another $99 then it's too much. IMO ableton charges way too much for the updates. I don't even want to know how much money i have poured into Live and Logic big_smile

Good idea but where to buy more hours to day? 24h is not enough for me at all.

Can't beat Logic when recording and comping audio. The Comp feature that came in few years ago have been lifesaver for me. Ableton Live for jamming and live gigs. Waiting Bitwig to come out. It seems that they have updated all Live's core features that Ableton have seem to forgotten.

I used FL when it was still just a simple beatmachine. It has evolved quite a lot since.

oh man, i hope there's no production quality standard. my mixes are whaaaack

Nope. Go and listen some of 2012 stuff. There is lot stuff that sounds like it's done in one hour jam. Lot's of lofi stuff and distortion. My first track will be from another planet with zero distortion and actual melody tongue

I love this project so far as it has no undo big_smile
I'm mixing my first submission track and just recorded some vocoder vocals to the track. Great idea to do that before pressing Bounce big_smile It goes in to category:"Well, it was a good idea at the time". It really messed the arrangement, but if i start to tweak that i will miss the deadline.

Let's see what happens next sunday.

Good luck everyone!

I also found this from CDM yesterday. I'm mixing first track now. Still few hours left smile

2013 i have done loads of short ideas and not even one ready track. Now i'm gonna finnish every week one track. It's gonna be quantity over quality.

2014 goal is to get one demo track / week done. At the same time i'm producing two records that are coming out on fall so this will be busy year.

I will also setup goals for weeks:
Make track with Maschine Standalone.
Make track with only hardware synths.
Make track using only one VSTi
Make track by using only real instruments. (that will be hard as i don't play anything smile

Track that i'm uploading today is made with LPX and it uses only logic stock plugins and only ES2 and Retro Synth. Limitations suit these kind of challenges well.

Good luck for everyone for 2014!
