omg this would be awesome.

someone needs to do this record and enter it as their song lol

I might be able to edit my code to only download non-ND and non-CR.

I remember wanting to say such a thing somewhere two years ago, then I remembered I couldn't be arsed.

That said, to this day, I tagged everything ever of mine, also a selection of songs from 2012 for personal use.

In that case just slap all of them into audacity once you've brought them all in, should be exactly that.

Not sure why on Earth you'd want to do that, but whatever, it'll work.

You probably don't want to put it in dropbox, unless you got an enterprise account. The first two weeks combined are about 4gigs.

on a related note, WB2012 ended up having between 3800-4000 tracks for the whole year.  (20 pages of 2012 tracks x 200 items per page)

one strategy is to download all of the week's mp3's, mix ALL of them together, then give one listen to the resulting jumble of noise =P

hey you know what, i wonder if someone could cook up a script to do just that!

Not a script, but this python program will download all songs with proper file names, then you can just load it all up in any music player and put it on shuffle.

I'm currently seeding all the songs (save a few late ones) with different filenames, but no one seems to be downloading them. Maybe I should just put it on Mega instead.

Any updates? Otherwise, I'm going to wait for the next week before downloading the previous week, considering this site is filled with idiots who cannot adhere to a deadline, like me, except I choose to keep my homework simple.

I like Glitch, it can do all sorts of crazy shit to your sounds. I've never used it for anything, but it's just good fun playing with it.

There's a Glitch 2 that's most likely better, but you can get 1.3 for free, though it's only 32-bit windows.

Paris, France. Heatwave here too. Temperatures aven't really dropped yet (they should be around 0°C but they're still between 5 and 10), seems like we'll have a long autumn followed by a long spring and no proper winter in between. It's been rainy every now and then.

Sounds like a regular year here, 6 months of wet and windy, 2 weeks of winter, 6 months of dry cold, 2 weeks of summer; give or take.

Sure, though it's not exactly as good as your bash script, since it doesn't make torrents, there aren't any standard libraries to do that efficiently enough; it's also not as streamlined as it can get. But overall it's a nice way of getting to know Python, and looking back at it and knowing that I wrote down every single letter gives me some sense of accomplishment.

Also here is week 2.

Edit: here is a work in progress code file, which will be slightly better.

So jiffypop doesn't do this anymore for some reason, perhaps he forgot, perhaps he hates you. But I don't, which is why I made a sweet python program to get all songs and stuff it in a zip file, just like before.

Long story short, here is the torrent of week 1, I'll add week 2 once it's completed. Get them while I'm seeding and spread the joy.

I figured we could just post the basic tune by itself onto Soundcloud. Soundcloud doesn't make you worry about licensing, does it? Or, if it does, there'd be an option for no licensing restrictions, wouldn't there be?

What's wrong with dropbox?

I'll... 'try' somthing

Just thinking up topical lyrics to Melbourne Weather.
"The sun is trying to kill me" might become ""The sun is trying to deprive me of existence" (growl)

Nuclear fusion of the throne of gods rain me with bullets of hot suffering and eats me whole (or WHOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL)

I like the shared melody idea. It will be interesting to hear how different everyone will be when starting from the same melody.  I would like to clarify that whoever writes the initial melody should be willing to release it under a CC-BY license to make everything kosher.

Or CC0, even less trouble.

I don't want to destroy my uke, so Black Metal is going to be a bit harsh, but I can probably make it work.

At a stretch you could probably submit some Burzum-style dark synth ambience.

Nah, I got something nice for this, which involves a paper plectrum and a voice changer.

Milkcrate would imply writing a song would take around 24 hours, but I really want my recording sessions to be no longer than 10 minutes. I don't want to destroy my uke, so Black Metal is going to be a bit harsh, but I can probably make it work.

I like the other three, I'm still skimming the surface of this whole instrumental stuff, so I'm going for Chinatown.

That'd be a good suggestion for the weekly theme thread. Have a set group of lyrics that everyone can use in different ways smile

What if we did this, but instead with a melody? It'd be cool to see how everybody incorporated it.

Why not both, it's not like there's a shortage of weeks or anything.
