i'm down for 39 more weeks of crappy music by me
i've mostly been writing snippets and that's all i've had time for, really.
i still have this feeling that i shouldn't be doing this because i actually do have a lot of other stuff on my plate this year. work has really ratcheted up lately and is suffering a little bit because of the time that could be used on work but is spent on WB noodling instead.
on the other hand, it's somewhat liberating to write music with literally NO expectation of having to produce a fully-formed piece by any means. in a way, WB this year has very much become for me a sonic scratchpad -- just in the adopting of the discipline of getting any musical idea down, no matter how larval; and i do feel better for having created the piece, as opposed to not having had created it at all.
i gotta say though, KORG Gadget has been a Godsend. it's become my go-to tool for the "oh crap i only have an hour to do this" moments where i want to come up with something decent in the least number of steps. in WB2014 i had no such tool to fall back on, and my year ended up being a lot more stressful as a result.
one thing you could do is just cast to twitch.tv and stream your browser window while playing the Music page from the beginning. if left to its own devices it would just play through the entirety of all the tracks..
music you don't want to listen to

gravity waves.. gravity waves, yo.
i don't need an upload link or anything, i just wanted to say i finally watched Interstellar (thanks Netflickz) and i finally understood the joke.
- i got an iPad this year, so i'll probably spend time figuring out different ways to use it for DAW-type stuff, recording, mangling etc.
- still don't feel like i'm adept enough at most desktop DAWs so i'll probably steep myself more in them
- will try to establish reusable workflows for live recording and/or sound design
- increased focus on getting more confident with mastering, multiband compression, cleaner mixes, etc.
already did the full 52 last time, so i'm not feeling as much pressure to satisfy EVERY week.
btw, i believe this page outlines the general approach. those instructions are primarily meant for angularJS apps, and while i'm sure this site wasn't done with angular, the secret sauce seems to be in adding a couple of .htaccess rules for the relevant User Agents, plus something to handle the resulting redirect.
not sure if this was brought up before, but is the possibility of scrapeable WB song URLs (for correctly populating things like facebook share links with more specific content than the baseline WeeklyBeats project description) out of the question?
as i understand it, the AJAX-heavy nature of this site would probably make the populating of META or FB opengraph tags moot. i think the only alternative left is to have the server detect requests from common web scrapers and then serve up to them a bare-bones static page containing only relevant metadata, such as song title + author + description?
anyway, i don't really know exactly how much of of a technical rabbit hole this would entail, but this would help make sharing a lot easier and clearer.
this might be the year that i finally learn what ableton is.
hope you guys like 52 weeks of pink noise
any chance i could get added to the 2014 list? =P had to deal with a slightly late reupload and typical hectic Christmas season diversions....
it's been a crazy year - some weeks' results surprising, some weeks disappointing, but always educational. this is coming from someone who used to take YEARS to finish ONE song.
overall, i'm actually quite proud of the average quality of my output -- some of the tracks were painfully short but i still tried my best to not phone it in and i can name very few passages that are "horribly embarrassing" enough to the point that i regretted venturing there.
thanks everyone for providing constant inspiration and encouragement by sticking it through. thanks especially to Phil Harmonic for being so forgiving of my frequent last-minuteness!
ACK, same here. turns out the javascript timer on the main site isn't synced with the server time if left to its own devices.
thanks so much! i feel quite compelled to send you a Christmas present for all you've done this year.
dammit, i could have sworn i beat the clock by at least a minute. any chance of a reupload?
