I couldn't get LMMS to produce any sound... At all... It sets itself to having no audio output, and when I change it, it asks me to restart the program. It goes on and on like this. I guess I'll download the ableton demo.

Also, excuse my lack of knowledge, but what exactly does VST even mean? I hear the term thrown around a lot, but I don't know what the heck it is, or how it's relevant to me.

I should have given more info. I am still a student, and I have a bit of money, but not much, and I don't wanna spend it all. I could buy some of these, including FL, but I wanna make sure I know my way before I do. I don't play keys, but I sing and play guitar. I've never done anything with recording sounds from real life besides doing vocals for one 15 second intro for a friend. I don't have any accessories, like soundboards or midi controllers. I have plenty of time to get some though. I've heard about Ableton, but I don't know if it has anything like FL's Piano roll, because that's what I like, and what I'm used to. I think I'd be crap at recording myself playing something. Also, I can't spend too much, because I need moneys to buy headphones as well.

Also, Sphax, thanks for the feedback on my music. It's not that I'm bad note-wise, but that I'm feel unprofessional.

I am trying my best to work my way up the musical design ladder. Right now, I'd say I'm very low on it. One of the reasons is that I have not put much effort or money into upgrading my scenario. I'm ready to do that, but I don't know crap about what to do. Therefore, I ask this:

I currently use the FL Studio Demo Version for my music design. It's nice, because I'm used to it, but it requires me to make things all in one sitting. I am growing uncomfortable with the inability to load, so I know I need to upgrade. I could always blow $200 of my money to get basically the same set-up I have now, with a load file button, or I could switch to a different program. I've heard that Reason is good, but FL is the only thing I've ever used. Any recommendations for better software?

I feel like I post too many question threads on this forum, so sorry about that. I don't know much about music, but it's still one of my favorite things to do. Therefore, I figure I'd be wasting any talent I may have in this department by not improving my knowledge on the subject. If you guys could help me out, that'd be awesome! It might also be nice to have a musical advice thread, or something, so that I can ask all my little questions without having to spam up the forums.

Thanks

I've never had the problem of not being able to finish a tune after returning to it, later in the week. Why? Because I'm a tightwad who currently is using the demo version of FL Studio with no save... Yeah, I kinda suck at this whole music design thing, so far. My notes aren't as bad as my techniques and habits. Not to mention, I've had very little musical training. I just kinda sit down and write what I think sounds good.

Are the HD280's really worth paying an additional 50 bucks? I'm a tightwad who would be perfectly content in living in a hole and eating ramen noodles for the rest of his life (that may be a bit of an exaggeration. Serious time, though). I try to save money as best as I can, and though I could afford the HD280's, should I  buy them over the others?

I'm looking to buy a new pair of headphones, but I don't know crap about headphone quality. I've heard Sennheisers are good stuff. From everything I can tell, this is a good pair for the price. For a budget of 50 bucks, should I get these? Are there some others that I should look at that would be better?

Also, I have looked at these others.

Cheaper, but I don't know how they compare.

More expensive = More quality???

All help would equal appreciation and better music from me!

I was going to try dubstep, but after I made my wobble bass it just didn't come together, so it's more of a techno song with wubwubwubwub infused into it.

I thought my first song kinda sucked. People liked the intro though. That made me happy.

I noticed that another person posted a thread about headphones, which reminded me that I could use some advice as well. Sorry if this is a lot like the other thread. I just really need some help.

I've been using earbuds for the past 2-3 years or so. Yep, Earbuds. Well, today, my right earbud failed. I've put it off too long, and now I need some actual headphones. My budget is anything decent for as cheap as I can get it. I don't know anything about headphones, at all, so I really need some serious help. I don't need anything super fancy, but I would like something better than earbuds. Those things are terrible.

Think you can help me out? Thanks!

Wow. I need to catch up on my music genres. I've never heard of quite a few of these. Do any of these fall under the definition of dubstep? I'd love to hear a nice dubstep track or two every week.

I know everybody is pushing to "expand your horizons" and "explore your inner musician" and stuff like that. I have no problem with that. I need to do that too. But, still, at least up until this point, what genre of music have you been making?

I write (somewhat crappy) techno music. What do you write?

I created a song last week, but then I realized that I was a week early. I created a second song today and I just uploaded that, however. I'm interested not only to hear what others have made, but also to hear what people think of my song.

Sorry, wrong forum post. This should be on the goals thread. But, for weapons of choice, I would love to get a nice mic so I could record my guitar or my FRENCH HORN (HECK YEAH!)

Yeah, count me in. But, what happens if I forget for a week. I have school, and I'm a busy guy.
