there isn't much or really any chip tune scene in Sydney.

No, not really. It's  pretty quiet here.

I did pretty well. I had a burst of motivation early on that resulted in about 6 songs over the beginning of the week. Let's hope I keep it up.

Was I expected to know in advance that this is an ongoing project?

You weren't. But you also aren't expected to ongo with the project.

My feeling is at this point that this site is merely another place for those who are already chip artists to coalesce

Perhaps that's because the majority of the people here are from the chip scene.
You have to remember that this did emerge from people heavily involved in chip, it hasn't had much chance to spread elsewhere.

But if we don't let people join in after week one, it would just remain an incestuous wank fest of chip wouldn't it?

.˙. by cutting off entry off (which you wanted) we create an impregnable army of chip (which you did not).

nah, it was pointless way before I joined in.

Who says the project isn't on going?
Just because there's only this year on the calendar doesn't mean it won't roll over.

Let's talk about what you will be using throughout this project.
I assume a large portion of participants will be direct from the chip scene, so I'm sure we can expect a lot of chip, and generally electronics oriented music. But what else do you have? How about that violin you begged your parents for and gave up on after 2 months of lessons?
What ever happened do the ocarina you picked up on holidays?
And how about that ukulele you bought when you used to listen to Bishop Allen?

I had a long history as a musician before I moved on to chip music, which eventually took over. As I mentioned in the goals thread, I had previously used PureData extensively. I also plan to use my banjo regularly. I have a guitar and bass guitar along with a swarm of pedals. I recently got some new synth gear which will bring with it a lot of new learning experiences.
I have the usual noise maker toys people get you for Christmas and birthdays, Gakken SX-150, Stylophone, Otomatone. Will these find themselves a place in the next 52 weeks? I'm not sure.

So what have you got that you've been neglecting that may make its way into your sounds over the next year?
And will we find a theremin prodigy amongst us?

My goals.

- Be more melodic. I have a tendency to focus more on rhythm or just the general sound of things, rather than melody. I've never been able to write melodies well and I feel like that may be letting me down.

- Move back to where I was in music a few years ago, just for a while. I used to write more chilled stuff and dreamed of sounding like Jean Michel Jarre. Somewhere along the way I got trapped in hardcore.

- Spend more time "perfecting" a track. It sounds like a stupid thing to bring up in this sort of context, but there was a track on Schrodinger's Punk that took under 15 minutes between me turning on the Gameboy, and exporting the rendered file.

- Additionally I too would like to get back into PureData. I had a good thing going there, I knew how to make it do what I wanted.

- Finally, one song a month will involve my banjo.
