Aliens came today

By fetalface on January 7, 2024 8:51 pm

Aliens came today, took you away- oh well.
I assume you'll be back someday, with stories to tell.
Drank the last drop today. Now,
I can't swallow the ashes of all that I meant to say
On our journey to hell.

I had extra time, so I polished your trophies to a mirror shine
I went online, to a place where everyone is doing fine.

I tried not to feel, now nothing is real.
We live in the shadow of a heart

Happy New Year fetalface!

dig this vibe - feels like a lost track from the man who fell to earth

this is such a cool start to 2024!
the ominous tone feels very now, i'm afraid.
always enjoy when emily has played me your tunes, and look forward to hearing more over the year  smile

ah this is really cool! love the cinematic synth pop sound and the forlorn lyrics. very nice!

Wow,

Love your vocals and the call-response with that lady is great. The vibe of this is very nice. The saxophone line is a great touch. Reminds me some depeche mode vibes maybe?

Great work.

Nice to see you back on Weekly Beats in 2024!
The dark vibe created by the synth, married with the surreal lyrics create a strange atmosphere. I am with Dippy - there is a Depeche Mode vibe, or also a David Bowie vibe in this track, with both the lyrics and the music. And that saxophone!

Very original, full of character, I loved that track! Looking forward to more tracks in 2024!

Cool combination of vocals, saxophone and heavy synth sounds!

Gym exit sign vibes.

love the tempo of this, the spoken lines, the harmonies, the moody cold wave vibe -- it's a bop!

Beautiful.

I love this! So moody and atmospheric. Dig the lyrics and the sax too!

The vocals sound so cool! It has that 70s vibe that I love. Great work on this track, really original sound. Great pulse with minimal percussion, it's the mark of a good composition. Would love to read more about the process.

This is a great tune to follow up on and make different orchestrated versions. I can imagine an epic live version with a full band. Actually the track allows a lot of imagination.

Also worth mentioning, great transition from solo to final chorus.

Thanks everyone! I seem to have forgotten how to reply to comments but I really appreciate the kind words.
Thanks for the Bowie et al. comparisons. I'm blushing.

I was definitely going for a new wave-ish sound. My inspiration track was "The Time Is Now" by Naked Eyes. Maybe I avoided sounding derivative because of the amateur production, which adds a sort of originality I hope?

@N_ronvaldez, what kind of gym I wonder? A 24-hour Fitness in an abandoned strip mall? A junior high school gym after the dance, when everyone's gone home so you can finally come out of the bathroom stall you locked yourself in for the past 2 hours because it seemed like the least awkward thing to do at the time? Or some other kind of gym entirely???

Anyway thanks all!

This feels like what I imagine would happen if early Pink Floyd got into new+synthwave.  Great sound.  Fun and slightly uncomfortable lyrics.  The vocal harmonies melt me each time I hear them.  (+fav)

Great song! I was hooked by the title. I'm always into stories about aliens coming to town, especially if its today. I hear now the story is much deeper, great lyrics. I like how you keep things somewhat simple and focus on the voice, but the music plays its part perfectly.

Excellent track! I love the decision to start things off immediately with vocals. Like Horatiu mentioned, they do have a certain kind of retro charm, evoking the spirit of a bygone era. Feels kind of between the late 70's, early 80's to me. Really strong melodic hooks. Looking forward to whatever else you put out this year! smile

I've been rewatching Dr who recently and feel this is currently relevant to my life.

Really digging the retro vibes!

awesomeness

Hoooly moly. Really reminds me of some sort of Pink Floyd meets new wave hybrid. That clarinet (?) joining in was unexpected but the cherry on top!

Love this 80's feel and saxy sax

It's so nice to hear your voice again. Let's hope they bring back whoever it was they took back before the next deadline.

Look, I can quote again!!! YAY.
You guessed it! It was a bass clarinet. Never really learned the saxophone

Wow, very cool.   Love the harmonic minorish solo in the middle.

YO

This is a banger of an opening for WB!  What a solid composition/execution/idea - really strong.  every element is essential.  this is like a cheese pizza with killer sauce, cheese, crust and then BAM the hot pepper flakes of the (i was gonna say saxophone but read your comment) clarinet!

also shoutout to Raja who is an actual alien lifeform

Thanks all! Decided that quoting comments takes up too much space unless I'm replying to something in particular. Shoutout to Raja, indeed. Devieus, I'm not sure but the aliens may be metaphorical, I'll let you decide!

sci-fi stuff
the response of the call-response sounds alien/robotic without effects.
great texture to the clarinet

Dope job!

I'm late to the partay!  I def agree it gave me some 80s synth vibes ala Depeche Mode with the pulsing bass.  The clarinet sounds awesome in contrast to the synth line and vocals.  Well done! smile

Loving the feel of this. Sounds like a good intro piece to a record I'd very much want to hear. I suppose it is the intro to the FetalFace 2024 weekly beat a thon.

This is incredible. Beautiful and unique, nice work!
