i was inspired by

who's been using other WBers tracks that allow for derivative works. i did that a few times in 2022, so re-upped my approach from then. i went back to each week of january and looked for which allow-derivative-work artists had uploaded their tracks just before and just after me. saturday was playing around with the samples, and sunday was honing in on what was emerging.

out of the 8 tracks (2*4 weeks), ultimately, this track includes:

RajaTheResidentAlien's 'Zeptomaniac'

by function of:
- how much time i gave (or rather didn't give) myself to listen through everything and find parts i wanted to play with
- what key the pieces were in and what i could pull to work together
- which ones i started riffing with to establish the initial idea

FloatingMuskie's 'trrn floaty mix' had this breathy echo vocal opener that i had fun playing with and started me down the track's path. also this cool stretching sound that was similar but different from one i pulled from RajaTheResidentAlien as well.

RajaTheResidentAlien's 'Zeptomaniac' was such a cool live experimental track that was a treasure trove of interesting samples and sounds to explore and play with. i was also blown away by that ranjit's work and watched some of their M8 workflow video (i don't even have an m8) and liked the process of different hits every 1/16th, so tried that out with a bunch of different sounds from 'Zeptomaniac' which gets the weird drum fill at the end of each loop. also use the cool stretch sounds as part of the drum fill.

kyrla's 'Sharktooth (Intro)'with my little time makes just one small appearance in the drum fill hits as well

then i used my dubler2 to capture my bassline idea, and felt like laying down some vocals to give it some organic loose energy, ultimately leading to this 80s/90s chicago house-y bop

man I love all the samples in this, the off kilter beat, and the full stereo samples for variety

appreciate the listen! just wrote up more backstory and about the samples used.

old school Chicago house vibes definitely come through.

i love the off-kilter feel of the beat, crystalline clarity in the mix too! ..and your sample-mashing here is a pristine delicacy(honored i could contribute to the inspiration!) big_smile
