Zeptomaniac

By RajaTheResidentAlien on January 21, 2024 11:42 pm

Hello, i'm prebeta-testing the ZEPTOCORE
created by Zack Scholl (aka 'infinitedigits')
it's like a pocket-operator-style hardware-beat-mangler with effects, sequencing, sync, etc... so much fun!

I didn't have much time to make a proper track as i was getting it up and running and figuring certain things out...
so i decided to make this week's weeklybeats an output of just this 'live' style experimentation on of some what i discovered while testing it out smile

and here's the video:

Thanks for being here, and hope you have a beautiful week!

Whoa, that thing's cool!  Some really sweet sounds and textures coming out just in your little demo.

Oooh tons of sound design nuggets in there yikes

What a cool little device

The gear looks so fragile, but sounds very massive.
Great space war Crescendo.

Now take all of those sounds, sample it, chop it, and go nuts! That would be a fun project! Would you mind if I gave it a go for a future weekly beat? Attribution for sound design included?

Oh man! this scratches and unlocks an itchy lock in my brain. love it. Love your scripts and devices.

Hahaha, I had similar thoughts. Remix challenge on Zeptomaniac! There are tons of cool sounds to work with here.

Hey Raja!  Charlie, (egon77 from monome) here.  Good to see you here as well.  This is my first go at Weekly Beats.  Some friends are doing it as well.  Infinite Digits is amazing.  Looking forward to you're future tracks.  Not sure how well I'll be able to keep up myself.

Haha, Thank You! it is quite massive in sound... and i've dropped it, and poked at it quite a bit, i'm pretty impressed with how robust it is(and Zack will make the design open-source... as with his previous works, there's others who will likely 3D-print cases/create their own builds)

Yes, and YES! (yes: i will take separate sounds from it this coming week and be putting it on the polyend tracker to create a much more intricately detailed track... as i await Zack adding sync, which is when i'll be able to work the rhythm more ornately even live big_smile...)
...AND YES: FEEL FREE TO TAKE AND USE THE SOUNDS I POST OF ZEPTOCORE! I'D BE HONORED! big_smile (ongoing...(...and attribution appreciated))
I'll tell Zack too, he'll be thrilled to hear the tracks smile

Thank you, ya all of Zack Scholl's works are astounding heart

Absolutely! Feel free! big_smile

EVERYONE - FEEL FREE TO USE THE SOUNDS I POST OF ZEPTOCORE HOWEVER YOU'D LIKE! big_smile (AND I AM SO SO SO VERY SORRY FOR ALL THESE GODDAMN CAPS I MEAN WHO LEAVES THEIR CAPSLOCK ON IN THIS DAY AND AGE?? AMIRITE??! big_smile )
Much Love heart Honored to hear people love the possibility of Zack's Zeptocore(also, i should mention it's very easy to setup with files... he diversified his toolset for customizing it, going to hold wide-ranging applications based on user preference big_smile )
ongoing: anything i post of Zack's Zeptocore, i'll leave open as "CC BY-NC-SA" (but as they're old sounds of mine i upload onto the zeptocore, i wouldn't be strict if people did use them for even whatever 'commercial' purposes they needed/liked either, no worries overall)

CHARLIE! (damnit with the capslock already) WAZZUP! big_smile Weekly Beats is great! You don't have to do em all...(i did do all of last year's, (but then went back and deleted 2).. not sure if i'll do all of this year's we'll see)... no pressure... looking forward to hearing your tracks(and possibly video(?)) too! heart

I like this noisy chaos! Also how you left it dry, very honest somehow…

Thank You, i appreciate it smile

some really gnarly sounds, honestly you could just chop this up and release a sample pack

Thank you!
(me, i just want to make music with it, and hopefully get out there and perform someday, but i'd love if the sounds drew attention to Zack's inventions, he deserves attention... so maybe i'll ask if he wants to include some of my sounds on the included sd card when it ships, that'll probably be the best way to get everyone the best output, at the same time, draw well-deserved attention to his invention) heart

great job!

Wildness in the wild , yess, I keep thinking we'll see more PO looking devices. Some nice chonky sounds you wrangled out of that, sounds fun.

loving the idea of more people making more little noise boxes like this.  happy that the technology is getting easier/better/cheaper

2:34-end is objectively the best part

Proper noisy, some awesome, disgusting sounds. PO is a flawless pairing. The gnarly PWM type sounds are particularly tasty.

I didn't know about Zeptocore before hearing this, but a friend sent me his Pikocore and I kept thinking "this is awesome, I wish it could process incoming audio".

Thoroughly enjoyed watching you smash those buttons! And then the SOUNDS came out!!!! We've just been Zept

The relatively unobtrusive pattern leading up to that berserk ending really sets things up for what's to come tongue

^^ My experience every time I hook up more than one device

We perceive: Saturnian glitches and rhythms unachievable by human hands, although the embedded youtube film indicate otherwise. Hm..

hell yeah, what a demo. Love these sounds. Didn't know about the zeptocore but I already have a pikocore!

Wow that looks like a lot of fun, I have a couple of these pocket operators but never managed to do much with them, the turntable/cassette effect sounds so good.

ya definitely(although, from what i hear, it's cheaper for the users, not as much for the creators/inventors who want to break into the game without corporate-level overheads for manufacturing...)...Zack also makes extra magic happen(even created a specialized tool for users to customize their files for it that works both on the web, and in a downloadable app version)... i'm going to enjoy using it ongoing for sure smile
Thank you!

Much appreciated! ..and so true(although with this one, it was more just me getting distracted attempting to setup a toolchain to modify the code/firmware on the device, only to realize it had so many features i'd probably never need to)

I love that effect, too! Thank you!

I love the pikocore(i have several), Zeptocore is like a more discretely controlled version of the loop masher that pikocore is, the two sound well together(pikocore for the lofi, and zeptocore for all the rest)... plus, Zack added a bass synth onto Zeptocore this last week... it's getting insane, haha smile

I shared your comment here with Zack...
...he's actually looking into 'input'... i'm not sure what that means, but he said he went down a deep rabbit hole with it, usually that means something crazy magical... i dunno... we'll see big_smile

Thank You Again, Everyone! heart

um... ya... it waz alienz

Done! Made a new track using only chopped up samples from this one.
