disco? disco! devolution

By eoe.vibin on June 12, 2022 11:36 pm

had fun with something that came out and was feeling kinda disco-y. I can't play guitar so I found a loop and pitch bended and chopped it up some. Then I didn't try to overthink it too much and just played with percussive layering. finally just did a melodic improv jam session on top of the perc loops and then did some arrangement to give it some sections and builds and drops of sorts. oh also i've been watching more mixing youtube tutorials and learned about parallel compression on the kick so played around with that too.

It was a nice fad while it lasted

Pretty nice string arrangement? is it a static loop or are you using some string library? I've got some of the Ableton packs, though I lack arrangement skills to make them shine.

I'd suggest shortening the electric piano "prelude" part because the low strings are more "epic" and they get a little bit lost because the listener is waiting for the piano to "do something" and misses the rise. Also I got that you were maybe going for a human feel, though in some parts the contrast from human played piano and "grid perfect" arpeggios is somewhat weird.

Mixing sounds great, IMHO.

BTW, Disco is not a fad... DISCO IS LIFE !!! wink

this is such a great jam the movements flow so well into each other

the mix sounds great!
