W51 - DO - Soft Order

By ENC_ on December 22, 2024 1:34 pm

Picked up and finished a small design job. Met with cousin in SJ. Visiting from M&E NYC after courthouse wedding. Talked about trains, music, tv, wedding, and healthcare. Almost 22 mile ride over a 2 hour period. Rode to neighboring city and back in a loop. Getting used to local freeway rides routes. Read book in park for an hour. Met with friends at local cafe. Usually miss out due to early meet time. I showed them record shop. Met bandmates to nail down songs. Worked on live backing track and rig. Produced 2 songs for the project. Visuals update shared. Looking good. Last minute shopping at target. Read book. Not going to finish it this year. Feels like a recap so is less interesting. Explored Vietnamese New Wave and Paris by night artists. Realizing I am just another Vietnamese American making 80's style pop with band. Did a lot of looking at E-MU Emulator 2 sample discs. Experimented with Vocoder source and legibility. Started acid track. Anxious night at home when wife met with friends. Don't know what to do with out her sometimes. Ordered The Man Who Fell From Nowhere. Want to watch the movie. Back to the Future 4k trilogy used store find. Also Tetris Comic for Wife.

Consumed: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Aphex Twin - Music from the Merch Desk (2016-2023), Pascaal - Plastic - Stils (saw on The Fellow Passenger record purchase post and wanted to try try it out), Sturgeon - Force + Form, Dogsbody - Model/Actriz, Luke Slater - Freek Funk, Aroma Nice - Old Haunts, Recue - Paramenisa, Kraftwerk - Techno Pop - Tour De France,

Software Used:
Ableton
monomono Mono
Tal - Uno-62lx
Plouge Chipcrusher 2

Song created in writing session with band mates. Worked on D's file for the "whip it" attempt. Came out more New Order. Picked up production and took pass w/ D to flesh out the idea and combine song influences. Heavy reference writing. Added chords changed structure and built new section . Passed to M to add Vocoder carrier ideas for later. He worked on structure a bit. Agreed that I take over production for sound design and basic mixing. Added new parts and filled in sections will go back for ear candy and transition signals later. Excerpt from full song uploaded prefer not to share final product before the festival. Emulator 2 samples used. Wanted to recognize the role that played historically while also throwing back to common samples used for years after.

I will be performing it on January 24th at MagFest. Might be able to catch in on the live stream. Thanks for listening and all the nice comments through the year. I mentioned you in my last song for the year write up you wink

Neo 80's means I am hitting the band's target. Good to hear because sometimes I get a bit ear-blind when I am working. Cheers! All the listening to 80s pop paid off.
