By ENC_ on December 8, 2024 12:50 pm

Started working on contract. Solid progress. Started late due to e-doc issues. Eating out and poorly but enjoying it. Chinese noodle shop, Pizza, LB avocado toast, fancy cola, and burrito. Already gained 10lbs back. Clocking more exercise hours. Found Mike and Rich and From The Big Chair vinyl while out riding and stopping at cafe w/ AL. Stops at pet charity thrift store and vintage VG shop. Talked with worker about chiptune and music and invited to discord. Small town community event. Holiday market met with R,L, & P. DO intro constructed. DO meet up D only. Talked with stranger about bikes. Talked with record shop owner about music. Friendsgiving. DS9 reflection on S4 EP14 and personal experiences. Need to prepare paperwork for end of year. No therapy for the rest of the year. Don't think about bank account too hard. light talk about wedding. Thinking about conversation about selling childhood home with parent. Upsetting but trying to be supportive. Strong feelings on live elements and refinement in production. Visuals starting with Saw Horse. Enterprise set arrived. New under seat luggage arrived. Baby boomer economic impact documentary on nebula. News heavy week for post election debates dissection.

Roland Alpha Juno 2
Roland Tr-09
Cyclone TT-303 (might be Roland TR-03)
Korg Volca Beats
Casio CZ-1

Software Used:
Ableton

Made from an assortment of samples created for other projects. Some from WB this year, others from random projects over 12 years ago with gear I no longer own. A lot were just random things I made for my sample library during random sound design explorations. Kept it extra short this time. Just wanted to try pushing tempo up and use some random samples on my M8. Clocked in at 190bpm. Made over a 2 hour period on the couch. Second song made for DO earlier in the week. Fun using old Korg Monotoron.

File Names: "W49-LEFTOVA" Dirtywave M8, "W49 - Leftovers" Ableton, "DO -

whoa I love this. That little break at 49, then when it comes back in mind blown. Then the break beat shortly after. favoriting.

I don't even know what I just experienced whilst reading this journal style entry about your life whilst being blasted with this music - but I loved it!

LOVE your consumed list, so much goodness in there. and the diet sounds fun! Being blasted with this wild tune whilst reading was the perfect storm

hell yeah, Songs From the Big Chair rules

as does this track! short blast of awesome. loved the Casio breakdown. keep going heart

Love the sound design through out this.  That BASS...

I googled The Acorn Discovery and now I'm disoriented and listening to a completely different WB
Good track tho!

Thank you for checking out my submission for the week and for the kind words smile Getting close to the end of the WB year. I was a bit rushed for this one and just wanted to bash it out quick so I could work on some other projects (some musical and others not so much). I think it kind of came out in the song a bit.

I've been revisiting a lot of music I and my friends were into in high school in the early 00's. Pleasantly surprised at how well most of this stuff has held up. Can't say the same for the demos I made from that time XD It was a starting point. Hard to be too hard on it.

It helps to revisit to see how the progress has been made in my skills and interests sometimes. Going from a occasional choir member, hand bell and trombonist to a singer and guitarist to ambient, chiptune, noise, sound design, and electronic music seems a bit scattered but all makes sense some how. It seem I like the thing that I can learn from and challenge me tongue

Fell into this album late but it really grew with me over time. I remember hearing the singles on when my dad was driving and smoking in his blue Datsun. They were always around. I didn't like 80' pop stuff because it sounded to sterile to me (Something about the early digital effects and gated reverb snares bothered my younger self). In highschool I started to realize a lot of the hits I did actually like were from Tears for Fears. Eventually I listened to the full album in college and was impressed. I've been revisiting it ever since. I think it's become one of my favorites. When I saw it, I had to pick it up smile

Funny enough that break down is all M8's wavetable synth. It does really sound like an old Casio keyboard now that I am listening back smile The CZ series is one of the only serious synths Casio ever made. It can do a lot but funnily I just used it to sample some acid sounds (kick in at the minute mark). A bit of a waste really tongue

Haha good luck. I think barely a handful of people know about that guy. Even less have copies of those songs. It was a guy I used to hang out with at shows in high school. He made that stuff before everyone posted their things on the internet. He was part of our local scene indie, punk, and hardcore scene. He was a couple of years older but really showed us what was possible if we got some basic gear (toy keyboards, guitar, amp, kareoke microphone, a pedal, and cassette tapes). Probably one of the reasons I ended up picking a cassette 4-track machine and started exploring music production.

Apparently Jenny Lewis listened to that guys demos at one point. He gave her a hand made CD at a Rilo Kiley show around that time. When he went to another show she talked to him about it and gave him feedback.

Thanks for listening!

Ah, that explains why I ended up looking at a paper about offshore oil exploration somewhere in europe smile Sounds amaxing

Damn, that ended too soon.  Haha.  Was enjoying that.

Love this. The sound palette is so interesting and the little breaks give it a lot of momentum.
