Went to the Ren faire with friends and ate out of town. Took longer then expected and missed shows for lines. Watched the joust. Stuck in park lot fields. Talked with random woman with grand kids about life and faire. Thrift store shopping for costumes. Broke diet. Continued cleaning the practice space and sharing music inspirations with D. Went to the theater. Ate lunch with AL's family before sibling and wife left to China. Disassembled Eurorack and moved all modules to new case. Tried to catalog inventory. Talked about future. Brother's dog passed due to kidney failure. Extended support as best I can. late to let him know about dates. Friend/old roommate, reached out about high school jacket left at dry cleaners in 2015 and forgot to pick up. Asked to retrieve it for him. Some bike rides. Finished playdate game. Encouraged AL to buy url. Talked about setting up their project. Tried to support. L, R, and P visit. P is getting big. only 6 months and has progressed a lot. Talked with local shop worker about SF music scenes and DJ with local organizer randomly. Learned a lot about T know J from across the street book store and working together. Picked up 3 used blue rays in the process (Annihilation, Rise of planet of the apes, Gattaca).

Phoned in submission this week. A bit burned out and short on time. Borrowed a friend's old Ableton Push 2. First time using it. Went in with no instructions or prior experience. Spent 30 min feeling it out. Tried to make something in an hour with it. These are the results. Fine as a proof of concept. Not fully onboarded to the workflow or convinced of its usefulness to me yet. Everyone is on the new Ableton Move hype train. I thought I'd at least try an old Ableton device to see how they approach ux/ui for their ecosystem. played in parts, live tweaked some knobs, tried to focus on using the push as much as I could. TBH I am faster with a mouse and keyboard. Time probably can close the gap. Frustrating for deeper sound design. Would make sense to build my own tools with macros. Added some generative choices for the computer to break up the looping a bit. Won't playback the same as the recording.

For something born out of basically playing with some new toys and seeing what they do, it's a remarkably cohesive experience.  Sounds like a complete track.

That persistent drone note every few bars is so cool. Really dig how this evolves. Love that low synth that fades into prominence around 1min. As I heard recently, no one cares how long it takes you to make a song, an hour or a year as long as they like it. And I like this one!!

So cool to use a new tool and work within that restriction, I reckon I'd need more than 1.5 hours to make anything with this device (after briefly looking up what it is). This definitely grooves, lots of tasty layers playing off of each other, just the right amount of "busy" for me.

I like the combination of a strong beat (that kick is HUGE) and the leads and pads that convey a sense of mystery to this track. It's like a noir movie set in a cyberpunk universe.

Spooky season chilltronica. Pretty cool for a "phoned in" submission!

Nitpick: those hypnotizing hi-hats and the ride are both nice, but they would probably sit better in the mix if put a little back (quieter + reverbed). Not a big deal, though, especially given that this was a new experience with Push.

it speaks a lot to your skills that you are able to pull this together so quickly using a new-to-you tool.
I like how you have the drones pushing and pulling with the beat.

There's something I really liked about this track. It establishes a tonal center in Ebm, but at some point there's this ostinato going around the F note that keeps creating a creepy tension with Ebm. It's pretty odd but pretty neat!
