Didn't do much living this week. Just the minimum. Worked all week on sound design, built set, and created new live setup rig for DO. Also generated samples for bandmates. More music in the day then I have done in a long time. Late nights and long work hours. Met with bandmates. Good conversation about family, work, and aging over drinks. Had dinner at thai restaurant with partner. Planning. Had double movie day. Rode bikes for groceries. Library visit to drop off old batteries. Bought new modular case and re-arranged modular for live use. Waiting on new case. Will use for Magfest but not west. Got Waldorf Pulse 2 back (missing since 2019).

Consumed: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, AFX - Analog Bubble Bath, various artists - The Factory 001, Legowelt - The Midiverb Chalice, DMX - Spiral Dance, Gak - Gak, Charlie XCX - Brat, The Sixth Sense (1999), The American Society of Magical Negroes (2024),

Software Used:
Ableton
Izotope Ozone 10
Tal - Pha
ALM ALMICON
Wavesfactory Cassette
SoundToys Radiator

Quick generative idea. Set multiple instances of Tal plugin with the same patch. Set the first to 3 voice and the rest to monophonic. Set sequence to play the same set of notes with trigger probability applied. Offset the location of the the note stack in sequencer. Create new bass instrument and set to monophonic. send midi to reciece from the polyphonic instance. Set instrument to low note priority so the bass will always imitate the root note of the chord.

After building setup I decided an acid synth might sound interesting but not in a typical acid line. Grabed acid preset from ableton and slightly tweeked settings. Set 2 instances with different seqence lengthes. Let play out of phase.

Resampled and live mixed parts. waited for a resolve to occur before killing sequence. Added some effects to the recording during automated mastering. Did not use all done on laptop speakers on the couch. ears tired from working on DO all week. last minute late night submission before going to bed sunday morning. Made in 20 minutes. One take. Way to wind down music work for the night.

Twenty minutes!!??!?! That's wild!!! I really like the feel of this. It starts off a little spooky then feels a little hopeful. Super nice!!!!

Wow, this is amazing - even more so that you turned it around in 20 minutes! Big Sinoia Caves vibes - nice, warm, 70s style saturated goodness.

this is the 4:48am vibe

Very cinematic and those detunes are just tamed enough to be deliciously emotional and musical. Two thumbs up!

I had been working on my other music project all week. I've been shy a few days of sleep so this came at the end of the night (or morning i guess) when I was finally going to sleep. The generative stuff makes quick work but requires some forethought and can get out of hand if you don't control the scope. Good for when you just want to make high level choices when making music rather then detailed writing.

I tried to keep it simple. TBH it's the tape effects that is probably doing the heavy lifting.

I was on Sinoia Caves for a while after the sound track for Beyond the Black Rainbow came out. Love that stuff. Not an intentional immitation but I can see what your saying.

It 10000% was. I was so dang tired but wanted to sleep in on Sunday. Was falling asleep while making it.

Thanks! I was pretty surprised hearing it back now. Got lucky with what the note generation chose. Rest of it is just some heavy handed sound design choices.

Very nice work! Love a bit of generative! Nice sounds, quite evocative of 80s synths and sci-fi soundscapes. The acid synth gives it a bit of a twist. Love the warble in that synth!

Man, great feel on this track - the cassette warble compliments perfectly and just multiplies the ambience. So much of a 5am liminal spaces essence to it. Great work, especially considering the time it was made in!

Super vibey, great chords, feels like top notch film music.
